You can speak a search query in Microsoft Edge in two ways: use a microphone control provided by the search website, when available, or use Windows voice typing to enter text into a search box. A missing Bing microphone button does not prevent the second method.
How to enable voice search on Bing
Open Bing and look for a microphone beside the search field. If it is present, select it, approve microphone access for that site and speak. Review the resulting query before searching. The control may differ between Bing pages, Edge’s new-tab layouts, regions and devices; there is no need to install an old Edge version to reproduce a 2021 screenshot.
Use Windows voice typing in a search box
- Open Edge and click inside the address bar or a website’s search field.
- On a supported Windows setup, press Windows + H.
- Allow the required microphone access and speak your query.
- Check the recognized words, correct names or numbers if necessary, then submit the search.
- Stop voice typing when you have finished.
Microsoft documents that voice typing needs an internet connection, a working microphone and a selected text field. Recognition and supported languages depend on your setup. Windows + K opens the Cast panel; it is not the voice-typing shortcut.
If the microphone does not work

Windows and the website can each require permission. Microsoft’s microphone privacy guide explains these separate controls. Allowing Edge to use the microphone in Windows doesn’t automatically give every website microphone access.
Voice typing versus voice access
Voice typing turns speech into text. Windows 11 voice access can also control windows and apps and works without an internet connection after its language model is downloaded. Choose it if you need hands-free computer control, rather than just a spoken search.
