mydlink 2.0: Review of this App for Cameras, Sockets and More

The manufacturer D-Link has created a complete system of Smart Home devices that are managed by a single application. If you have cloud cameras from the manufacturer D-Link, smart plugs, smart strips and other smart home devices from the manufacturer, you can manage them all with the new mydlink application available for Android and iOS. mydlink has been completely revamped with a new look, it is much more intuitive and also faster than the previous version. Today in this article we are going to completely analyze the new mydlink 2.0.

Download, install or update the new app

This mydlink 2.0 application is the latest version of the app, it is not a new app as it happened in the past with the old mydlink Home. If you already had this application installed on your smartphone, it will be like a normal and current update, if you do not have it installed, you should not do the first steps because you will start from scratch.

mydlink 2.0

The first thing we have to do is download the app from the official Android and iOS stores respectively:

If you already had the app installed from before, and you were using it with your Cloud cameras, smart plugs or other devices, the first thing we will see is an assistant to migrate the entire profile to the new application. These steps are totally necessary to import all the configurations that you had previously in version v1.0. Once the migration has finished, we can click on the “News” button so that a wizard will appear explaining the changes that have occurred.

The first change we will have in this new application is that the “One touch” function is now called ” Scenes “, in addition, we will have three presets ” At home, Away and Sleep “. Depending on what we have previously in the old app, the actions will be in one scene or another.

In terms of automation, the function is the same the only thing that has changed the graphical user interface. We can activate automations or predefine a specific scene, in addition, we can program it fully automatically. The ” Program ” section is where we can define the schedule for the entire week to automate the different devices.

Next, he gives us a brief introduction to the graphical interface of the main menu. We can configure the order of the devices by clicking on the upper right icon, and we can also activate a scene quickly by clicking on the button that we have in the main menu. Finally, it will request permission to access the network and location to later register devices easily and quickly.

Once we have seen the migration and the small welcome assistant to this application, we will see in detail all the options that we have available.

This is the new mydlink 2.0 application for Smart Home devices

The first thing that strikes us is that we can see in the main menu all the cameras and devices that we have registered, in addition, we can activate the “scenes” very quickly by pressing just below “Home”. When pressed, we will see three options: Away, Home and SUSPENSION . Depending on the configuration chosen, it will do a certain action (or several actions).

In the upper right we have two icons, the left one is the events and videos recorded in the cloud, and the right one is the order of the different cameras or devices that we can register.

In the ” Event and video ” part, we can mark different events as favorites to have direct access to them whenever we want, in addition, we also have a fairly advanced filter that will allow us to search for a specific event of a specific device in a specific date, ideal for an advanced search.

Finally, we will always be able to sort all the cameras and the different devices in the main menu, as was the case with the old version of the app.

In the drop-down menu on the left, we will have different configuration options:

  • Landscape
  • Automation
  • Program
  • Add device
  • Device settings
  • Event and video
  • Cloud recording
  • Integration with third parties (Alexa and Google Assistant)
  • Help
  • About

Landscape, Automation and Program

In “Landscape” is where we can configure the different modes of the scenes, the change will be applied when we select it in the main menu. If we click on “Home” or “Outside”, we can see the current configuration that we have, basically what we have registered in “Home” is that the Cloud cameras activate the privacy mode so that they do not record anything, and when we press in “Out” they are activated again and start recording when motion is detected.

In this section we will also see the ” Automation ” configuration that we have applied to the different devices, we have configured that when it detects movement / sound, it will automatically notify us with a push notification and that it will be recorded in the mydlink Cloud. From this menu we can edit the events that must occur for this automation to work, in addition, we can also configure the “Scheduler” from here, so that this automation only works at a certain time.

As you can see, we have a large number of configuration and customization options, ideal to adapt to the needs of users.

Thanks to this new completely renewed user interface, all the actions that we can perform with the mydlink app are really easy to do and configure, with really very intuitive menus, although logically we will need a minimum time of use until we handle the application perfectly .

Add device and device settings

In the ” Add device ” section we will run the mdlink 2.0 app installation wizard, this wizard will allow us to register new cameras, smart plugs, motion detectors and many other Smart Home devices.

In the ” Device settings ” section is where we can access the specific configuration options of the device in question, in the case of cameras, we can modify their name, activate or deactivate privacy, configure motion detection, storage of video clips, activate or not night vision, invert the image, configure Wi-Fi, pan and tilt if the camera is motorized, and much more.

These options that you have seen previously are the same as we had in the previous application, in this section nothing has changed, only the appearance, what is the functionality is the same as always.

Event and video, subscription, third party integration, help and about

In the ” Event and video ” section we can directly access the events and videos that have occurred over time with the Cloud cameras. We will also access this same menu from the main menu of the application.

In ” Cloud recording ” we can see our subscription plan, the plan that we currently have contracted, and the possibility of contracting a higher or lower plan and also renew the subscription of the plan that we currently have. We purchase the premium subscription annually, which allows us a limit of 5 cameras, 14-day cloud recording, and a maximum storage of 500 clips.

In the “Integration with third parties” section we can link mydlink with Alexa and Google Assistant accounts, ideal for controlling all devices by voice with these assistants. In “Help” we can see an orientation and support guide from the manufacturer D-Link. Finally, in “About” we can see the version of the new application.

So far we have arrived with our analysis of the mydlink 2.0 application, now we are going to list a series of strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths

  • Migration from the previous version is fast and automatic, without losing data.
  • Very intuitive and fast through the different menus available.
  • The visualization of the Cloud cameras in real time is faster, that is, from when we press until we see the image in real time, less than a second passes.
  • The main automation, programming and control options are still present with another aspect
  • We have free cloud recording on a limited basis, if we want more, we will have to pay for the different subscriptions.
  • It is completely free.

Weak points

  • None remarkable

Last conclusions

D-Link has done a great job redesigning the entire mydlink 2.0 application, without losing data in the migration from the previous version, as all migration is done fully automatically. The new controls and the new aspect of the application, the truth is that we liked it enormously, in addition, something that we have noticed is that it is much faster than the previous version, especially when we have to view the cameras, it is really fast since later less than 1 second to display.

Another aspect that we must highlight is the completely free recording in the cloud but with limitations, just like we had in the previous version, but we would like to highlight this aspect, and that is that almost no manufacturer has free cloud recording, everyone has one paid subscription. Also, if we want the premium subscription, it has a really competitive price.

Once we have seen how the data is migrated, the new graphical user interface, and all the configurations and automations that we can do, our rating of this mydlink 2.0 application is 10/10.

We hope you liked our analysis, if you have any questions, you can put a comment and we will respond delightedly.
