MX Linux 19.1: News and Download of the Alternative to Ubuntu

When we seek to get away from Windows, one of the first operating systems that comes to mind is Linux. This free and open source operating system offers us a totally new experience on how to use our computer. And although many think that Linux is difficult, there are distributions designed for all types of users where performance, stability and even ease of use prevail. One of these distributions is MX Linux .

The MX Linux distribution relies on Debian to bring users a very careful, simple to use and, above all, fluid operating system. In order to offer users the best possible support (and avoid what Microsoft has done with Windows 7), those responsible for this Linux distro usually launch updates periodically so that MX works in the best possible way and not User problems.

Changes in MX Linux 19.1

19.1 is the new update of this excellent Linux distribution. Although it is not an update that brings great revolutionary changes, it is an important part in its development

The first thing that we must keep in mind is that this new version of MX Linux is based on Debian 10.3 (Buster), so it brings all the changes and all the improvements of this distro base to the users.

Among all the news of this update, the most important that we should highlight are:

  • XFCE desktop 4.14.
  • MESA libraries 18.3.6.
  • Kernel 4.19.
  • Firefox 73.
  • VLC Player 3.0.8.
  • Clementine 1.3.1.
  • Thunderbird 68.4.
  • LibreOffice 6.1.5.

In addition, the MX Apps, MX’s own applications designed to help better manage this operating system, have also been updated. The installer, configuration tool and control of some elements (such as screen brightness) have been improved by hardware.

New ISO Advanced Hardware Support

In addition to finding the two usual versions (for 32 bits and 64 bits), MX Linux 19.1 has released a new edition designed especially for 64-bit computers: Advanced Hardware Support .

MX Linux AHS is a new image of this distro designed to support the most modern hardware, especially the latest Intel and AMD components. This new MX image uses Kernel Linux 5.4 and also has a more recent version of the MESA libraries (19.2.1) and new xserver drivers.

How to upgrade to MX 19.1

This new version of MX Linux is now available to all users. The 3 different ISO images can be downloaded for free from the following link . Unless we start up with a problem, we recommend you download the normal 64-bit version, as it should work for most users. If we have a very modern PC, then the AHS image should not give us any problems.

Users who already have MX Linux installed on their computer will then be able to upgrade to version 19.1 through the MX Apps update manager itself. After downloading the latest versions of the packages of this distro we will have it all up to date and we will be able to fully enjoy this great alternative distro to Ubuntu.
