Mercedes-Benz MBUX Presents the Second Generation

Screens and more screens. The automotive market demands from users more intelligent vehicles, with more screens and more intelligent functions with which to interact with the vehicle thanks to technology. After a period in which brands have learned to integrate intelligent systems for the car such as Car Play or Android Auto, many continue to develop extremely advanced systems with which to surprise the public, and that is the case with Mercedes-Benz .

This is how My MBUX works

Mercedez-Benz MBUX

The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) surprises for giving a rather striking generational breakthrough. The manufacturer has released the second generation of its system in the new S-Class , the manufacturer’s highest-end model. The first thing that catches your eye is that Mercedes has completely changed the style of the elongated screen that it had in the first generation to make way for a more traditional distribution of two screens: the one with the instrument panel and the central one with multimedia controls.

This new organization inevitably reminds of Tesla’s proposal , especially due to the dimensions and vertical format of the screen that is located in the center of the cabin. The system will consist of a total of 5 screens, the two front and three rear, one placed behind each seat and a third on the center armrest.

An OLED on your dashboard

The most striking thing about the central screen in the dashboard is that it has a 12.8-inch OLED panel with 1,888 x 1,728 pixels, so it offers a rather striking resolution that will be very sharp. This new screen size also seeks greater control digitally, since it has allowed reducing the physical buttons by a total of 27 fewer controls than the previous generation. So, for example, the climate controls will now be displayed on the screen instead of having separate controls.

Taking into account this dependence on digital control, Mercedes has integrated a series of technologies that will improve the user experience. So, for example, the controls will be preselected just by moving your finger to the screen, and a fingerprint reader will quickly log in to load user settings immediately.

Augmented reality as a guide

Another novelty that attracts a lot of attention is the Head-up Display system with augmented reality. This system, as the presentation video shows, will be able to project indication signs perfectly adapted to the road we are driving on, so that if we have to take the first lane exit on our route, an arrow will locate virtually on said lane so that we can see clearly which way to go.

Mercedes

Technologically very advanced

The most striking characteristics of the system are very striking and functional, but to give life to all this requires a brain capable of managing everything. That’s where the new Mercedes control center comes in, which offers 50% more power than the previous generation, and features a GPU with 691 gigaflops to handle rendering of all displays.

In addition, 320 GB in SSD format and 16 GB of RAM will be in charge of ensuring that everything runs smoothly, being able to receive system updates via the internet and having a voice recognition system with 27 registered languages.
