After the initial delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the iPhone 12 supply chain is now beginning to function normally. After numerous leaks in these weeks about the characteristics of the four new Apple devices, we now know who the providers of the cameras are, and we speak in the plural because they will again have more than one lens.
Double and triple camera + LiDAR on iPhone 12
After Apple’s experiment in 2018 with two premium and one high-end iPhone, last year it repeated the formula with the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. This year it seems that the company will once again bet on different categories within its flagships, although this time the high-end will have two versions, being able to obtain it in two different sizes, as also happens with the ‘Pro’.
Although the name is not yet known, they are popularly known as iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The ‘normal’ models would have sizes of 5.4 and 6.1 inches and a double camera. The ‘Pro’ models would have 6.1 and 6.7 inches with a triple camera to which the LiDAR sensor already seen in the latest iPad Pro 2020 would be added .

All of these devices would have lenses of up to 64 Megapixels . The iPhone 12 would have a wide angle accompanied by an ultra wide angle and the iPhone 12 Pro these same, but with a telephoto lens and the aforementioned LiDAR sensor. The new comes with the suppliers of these cameras , which would be LG for the highest range and for the others it would be divided between Sharp and O-film, with 60-70% and 30-40% respectively.
It is unknown who will be the manufacturer of the 3D sensors that make up the LiDAR, but it is known that there are no problems in the production of these and that they would be improved compared to what was seen in the iPad Pro. Another thing will be the functions that Apple adds. to these sensors, for which we would have to wait at least for WWDC 2020 to be held on June 22.
Will the iPhone 12 arrive in time then?
It seems not. The strict sanitary measures imposed by the Chinese government when the coronavirus outbreak began caused many factories to have to temporarily close or abide by regulations that would have prevented a normal development of production. The fact that this pandemic also went global could also severely affect the calendar.
Therefore, based on information from sources close to these supply chains, we have been able to know that it will be delayed by at least a month . Therefore, until October or November we would not have these devices, although it would not be a novelty considering that computers such as the iPhone X already had some delay in their day when they were launched on the market.
We will remain attentive to any news that may arise around this. What does not seem to change will be the date of presentation : September. Regardless of whether Apple may or may not hold a face-to-face event, it does not seem that they want to delay it considering that they would have other products in the bedroom besides the smartphones.
