MagSafe Batteries: Possible Arrival of Reversible Charge to the iPhone

During the last years it has been rumored of the possibility that Apple included the reversible charge in its iPhone. This came from the presence of this same technology in competing devices, but the Cupertino company today has not been able to take this step. This may end up changing with the launch of a battery with Apple’s MagSafe technology that would have this technology. We tell you everything you know about it below.

Reversible charging would finally reach the iPhone

With the arrival of the new iPhone 12, Apple wanted to rescue the MagSafe technology that was present in all its MacBook. This, in addition to providing numerous functions when using specific cases or chargers, could also be used to integrate a battery that recharges the iPhone itself or other devices . This is something that technology guru Jon Prosser has publicly stated and leaked through an iOS version.

In the second beta of iOS 14.5 it could be seen in the code that Apple was working on battery packs. These packs would act as a new MagSafe accessory that would be attached to the back of the iPhone to continuously recharge it. This would increase the autonomy of the device enough so that you would not have to worry about charging every few hours.

Jon Prosser has now detailed that these plans point to two types of batteries being launched. One of them traditional that would only charge the device to which it is coupled and another that would integrate reversible charging. The latter can be really useful to be able to recharge different accessories at any time, such as the AirPods and even the Apple Watch . In addition, another mobile device that is compatible with Qi wireless charging could also be recharged. In the end, it is the reversible charging system that we see in other mobiles and that Apple could not integrate into its iPhone because it was not entirely efficient and overheated the device.

Another big question that can be asked is whether they will arrive in a sleeve format. We have the pretext of the Smart Battery Case in previous iPhone models. It is possible that this time you want to opt for something similar but making the most of MagSafe to improve efficiency in every way.

Will they finally see the light?

While these are just guesswork. Prosser himself expresses that these are Apple’s plans but there is a possibility that only the traditional MagSafe battery will be launched. In other words, if the reversible load does not work properly, you may choose not to release it. It will depend a lot above all on the efficiency that is achieved as well as the heating that occurs. It must be taken into account that two devices would be charging at the same time and in this situation the charging power must be lowered in order not to generate excessive heat.

That is why there are too many unknowns on the table about their viability to know if they will ever see the light. There are many Apple projects that have been reflected in versions of iOS or rumored by different gurus that have not ended up being fulfilled. Future iOS betas should be taken into account to see if these references are still present in the code or end up disappearing.
