Magic: The Gathering is synonymous with collectible card games, one of those phenomena that after more than twenty years on sale is still very much in force. If a new card expansion, Theros Beyond Death, was recently launched, now the company surprises us with a new mobile game: Magic ManaStrike.
What exactly is Magic ManaStrike,
If you have played or, at least, you know Magic: The encounter you will know is a game of collectible cards where you use a deck of 60 cards to fight against that of other magicians, combining different types of cards to form a strategy that can be of the most varied.
Well, this game invented by Richard Garfield more than twenty years ago is still very current and engaging millions of players worldwide. The problem is that, despite his success he has not been able to create a digital product that will do him justice. Magic Arena is fine, but other options like Hearthstone have stolen prominence.
My theory, as a Magic player – yes, I have resumed the hobby – is that in the digital version the mechanics and their rules do not facilitate the replication of the same experience in an agile way. Also, play sitting in front of your opponent, with the feeling of the cards in your hand, shuffle the deck … that does a lot. Therefore, I understand better why this new game changes registration.
Magic ManaStrike is a game similar to Clash Royal , where the idea is to play games that do not exceed three minutes. This gives a greater dynamism (which has never had) and although it “breaks” a little what Magic means to many, it does maintain certain similarities and essence to attract fans of the card game.
How to play Magic ManaStrike
The mechanics of Magic ManaStrike is very simple . The first thing you have to do is choose a Planeswalker, this is the first step when choosing strategy to beat your opponent. Each of these guardians will have two defenders and a set of skills to help them protect themselves. Those skills will be the cards.
You will have creatures, spells and abilities so that you can face the opponent’s attacks and also attack him in search of victory. All those cards are played based on the cost of mana and the reserve you have. Therefore, having more mana than your rival will remain key.
Of course, here there are no lands to turn but a reserve of mana that will be recharged. As if they were Clash Royale’s abilities, these creatures, spells and other abilities will appear on the screen and you will be able to cast them based on what you think is most appropriate at all times.
After several initial games I have to say that it is one of the latest proposals related to Magic The Gathering that convince me. If instead of Magic ManaStrike had been called otherwise it would be the same, but with this name it is true that they gain visibility. And it must also be said that the aesthetic and atmosphere that you can see in the cards moves to the game. So, very well the proposal.
