The Mac Studio is now official: what Apple’s new computer looks like

The idea of seeing a hybrid between Mac mini and Mac Pro has been sounding for more than a year. Jon Prosser and Mark Gurman were among the most insistent on them and although in recent days their possible launch was already predicted, it has not been until now that Apple has officially introduced it under the name of Mac Studio.

The Mac Studio is now official

This is Apple’s new Mac Studio

There are many people who claim in their day to day to have a powerful device, with modular peripherals and above all that does not take up much space on the table. Apple’s response to all these requests has been the Mac Studio which can certainly be categorized as a big hit on the table. This has been accompanied by a screen called Studio Display, but that is purchased separately as we will see later.

The most important thing about this device is that it is an authentic piece of recycled aluminum. It is designed to be able to manage a large amount of heat that is released from the chip that is included when performing large operations. At the base, the movement of cold air is carried out so that it passes through the chip itself, which is where the main focus is. In this way a circular circulation is achieved. The release of heat is done through 2,000 machined perforations, making the sound minimal.

Connectivity is no longer an issue when it comes to Macs, something that could not be said in the past. In this case, four Thunderbolt 4 ports are generally integrated on the back, next to the power port. In addition, two USB-A ports are included and also an HDMI port to connect to conventional screens. For those audio purists, a professional audio jack is also included. Regarding connectivity, the presence of Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5 stands out.

Processing power is also a really important part of this new Mac Studio. In this case, it will be possible to make the purchase with two Apple Silicon chips: M1 Max and the recently presented M1 Ultra. This has been a big surprise at the event and is summed up as a combination of two M1 Max chips. This makes it possible to have a power never seen in a Mac, and far exceeds MacBook Pro models on the market or iMac. All this with reduced energy consumption and also heat dissipation. Obviously, it is specially designed for professionals in the photography and video sector.

It should be noted that the model that has the M1 Max chip can be configured with up to 64 GB of RAM and on its front there are two USB-C ports. In the case of choosing the M1 Ultra chip, this RAM figure can increase to 128 GB, and an SD card reader would be found on the front. When it comes to storage, there is an SSD drive that offers a write and read speed of up to 7.4 GB per second. It can be configured with up to 8TB of capacity.

The electrical consumption is really interesting, since Apple promises a consumption that is reduced by 1,000 kWh compared to a high-end Windows PC. And if we focus on prices, the model with the M1 Max chip starts at $1,999, and the model with the M1 Ultra chip starts at $3,999 . It will be available from next March 18.

Studio Display Feature

One of the rumors that had flown over this keynote was the possibility that the Cupertino company would present a new monitor to accompany its different available Mac models. Well, in this case the rumors were true and Apple has presented the Studio Display, a screen that, without a doubt, is more than a simple monitor, since it has features that will delight all users who can enjoy it.

In terms of design, it is surely the type of monitor that all iMac users wanted for this one, but that Apple saved to present such a special product today. Of course, it is somewhat thicker than the iMac screen but with a size of 27 inches and a 5K resolution , it seems like one of the best options, if not the best, to accompany any Mac, whether desktop or laptop. . It has 14.7 million pixels and 600 nits of brightness, a 3P color scheme and True Tone and the possibility of tilting up to 30 degrees. In addition, Apple gives the possibility of acquiring a nanotexturized glass model to prevent the brightness of the environment from worsening the visual experience offered by this monitor.

As we said, this Studio Display is really much more than a monitor, since inside it it has the A13 Bionic chip to be able to manage everything that surrounds what is already an excellent screen in the most efficient way possible. To begin with, it integrates a camera that will offer what all users need, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with centered framing, ideal for making all calls and meetings with fantastic image quality.

But it is that the camera is not the only thing that we can highlight about this monitor, but both the speakers and the microphones are really surprising. The speaker system is made up of four Woofers and two Tweeters , providing a sound experience never before seen on a monitor. As for the microphones, this Studio Display has studio quality microphones , offering excellent call and recording quality. It also supports spatial audio and of course music and Dolby Atmos audio .

Finally, we have to talk about the possibilities in terms of ports and connectivity. To begin with, you will be able to connect the MacBook Pro to this Studio Display through the Thunderbolt cable and at the same time that it will transmit the image, it will also be charging your Apple laptop thanks to the 96 watts that it is capable of emitting. In relation to the MacBook Pro, you have to know that you can connect up to three Studio Displays at the same time and have a truly enviable system of screens to be able to develop all your creativity. As for ports, it has three USB-C and one Thunderbolt .

And for all those users who are already savoring this product, they will be able to reserve it starting today , with its official launch being on Friday, March 18 , so the wait will not be too long, meeting the deadlines that Apple usually establishes when it carries out this type of presentations.
