MIUI updates are highly anticipated by Xiaomi fans, due to the improvements and news they integrate. At the moment, the company is immersed in the implementation of MIUI 12.5, a kind of transition layer before knowing MIUI 13 that will arrive this year. The firm’s long list of devices is admirable, including the cheapest and others that have been on the market for a longer time. However, as in any update, a screen is always produced, which, unfairly or not, leaves out some models that are still in the hands of their owners.
It is understandable that software support cannot last forever. The resources required to maintain a model (with its attendant complications) are considerable. The newer models are displacing the older ones, which will be anchored in older versions of MIUI, without being able to test many of the new features. As we have already seen on our site, the list of terminals that are in Xiaomi’s plans to update to MIUI 12.5 is very wide, but there are also notable absences in this update process.

Xiaomi phones that run out of MIUI 12.5
The update process is sometimes very complex, and depends on possible unaware errors that occur during the internal update process. This is why, on many occasions, models that were originally chosen to be updated are discarded. The most recent and curious case we have with the Redmi 7, a terminal that was discarded for MIUI 12, but is now receiving the update to the surprise of many. The absences to receive MIUI 12.5 are the following:
- Xiaomi Mi Max 3
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
- Redmi Y3
- Redmi 7
- Redmi S2
- Redmi 6 and 6A
- Redmi Note 5 Pro
- Redmi Note 6 Pro
Notable absences
As we can see, the list contains terminals that are still in the hands of many users and that were best sellers. Above all, the Mi Mix 3 5G stands out, this terminal has been defenestrated by Xiaomi due to the multiple problems that have dragged on since it was put on sale. It was presented in 2019 and by seniority, they could well be a candidate for MIUI 12.5 like the rest of the chosen terminals.

We also see that the Redmi Y3, Redmi 7 and Redmi 6 and 6A, will not receive MIUI 12.5, along with flagship terminals and still in the hands of many users such as the Redmi 5 Pro and Redmi 6 Pro, which have recently started to upgrade to MIUI 12, and they will not see MIUI 12.5 in their guts. The gigantic Mi Max 3 will also stay with MIUI 12 as the last stable version, without getting to know MIUI 12.5.
However, as we have seen, Xiaomi is given to surprises, so many will cling to the hope that the new version will appear unexpectedly in terminals, something unlikely in these terminals. However, there will always be the option to dive through the different developer forums where these terminals still have a privileged gap and an “extra-official” support for updates that continues without rest.
