This coming Sunday, January 9, it will be no more and no less than 15 years since the presentation of the original iPhone. A device that would end up changing the paradigm, not only of Apple, but also of the telephony industry.
Its official launch would not take place until June 29, 2007. And in fact, if we count countries like Spain, this was not really the first iPhone but its successor, the iPhone 3G. Getting the first generation in remote territories of the United States was quite an odyssey and whoever still has one has in their possession a gadget of (almost) incalculable value because of how it has been revalued over time.
Specifications of the device that made history
Today we would see ridiculous specifications like the original iPhone. And thank goodness, since 15 years later it would be worrying that the industry had not evolved. Although beyond these technical characteristics, the original iPhone also won over the public for benefits such as having a capacitive screen with which it was not necessary to use a stylus, an operating system that until then was more typical of computers, being able to browse the Internet , send emails or use GPS.
It wasn’t all flattery at first
However, it must be recognized that the original iPhone was not without criticism (Apple devices have not changed in this). And it is that there were those who saw these devices with a very low expectation, coming to criticize that Apple got into an industry that did not correspond to being historically focused on the range of classic computers. And boy was it ready, so much so that years later they stopped being Apple Computer to become simply Apple.
Some even criticized its screen size , saying that it was excessively large (we do not want to imagine what mobile they have now when on average none of the 6 inches falls). Even the starting price of $ 199 seemed expensive. Price that, in the end, made this the cheapest smartphone of the brand. And that at that time there were already more expensive phones.
A future that could be in doubt in 2022
Now it may be difficult to imagine a future without the iPhone, which in a way would unleash a future without a smartphone from other brands. Or at least as we know them. However, the same has happened with other large technological products that have become obsolete or focused on very specific public niches. See the very iPod, which survives in the ‘touch’ range precisely because of devices like the iPhone.
However, there are already those who point out that within a decade they could be out of date due to new technologies such as augmented / virtual reality devices . In fact, if we are targeting 2022 as a key year, it is because the apple company is expected to take the first step in this area. In fact, there are so many doubts and uncertainties as in that beginning of 2007 in which nobody saw clearly that Apple was going to present and what path it could take. History has already responded.
