After several weeks of waiting, Apple has finally officially launched the release of the final version of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, now available to all users. This is a version that has caused some concerns during its beta process as its first beta for developers came out without iOS 14.1 being available to users. But finally, the beta process is over and you can now install this new version on your iPhone and iPad.
What’s new in iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2
As we say, days after users could enjoy the news of iOS 14 on their iPhone, the first beta of iOS 14.2 arrived without there being any clues about iOS 14.1. This was done with the aim of being able to avoid leaks of the new devices that were to be presented in September.
This new version comes different news that were not included in iOS 14.0. Specifically, the new features that have been integrated are the following:
- A new shortcut to summon Shazam can be included in the control center. With this you can get information from a song that is playing without having to invoke Siri and give it the instruction.
- The music playback controls have been redesigned in the control center. Pending music or podcast suggestions are displayed.
- When selecting the AirPlay devices to send certain content to, the drop-down menu is not so intrusive to the eye.
- Redesign of the ‘Watch’ app icon showing the Solo Loop strap on the iPhone.
- New wallpapers, emphasizing the dynamic options to adapt the color to light or dark modes.
- New accessibility function to detect the distance a person is from the environment. Function limited to iPhones with LiDAR sensor.
- Support intercom function.
- New emoji.
To these novelties that have been exposed here must also be added the resolution of different problems that were reported by users. For example, some widgets could go black without displaying the content or the problem with the icons of the applications that could appear larger than the actual size. These and many other bugs have been completely corrected without prejudice to the fact that some more may appear that will be resolved in future versions. Obviously as new versions come out, they will be more stable as has happened in previous versions.
So you can update your iPhone or iPad
It is really important to have the devices updated to the latest version available. Not only because of the new features that are being included but also because of the resolution of bugs as well as the application of different security patches. The latter may be the most unknown to many users as it cannot be seen clearly on a day-to-day basis while using the device. But with these, the improvement of safety and user protection is guaranteed at all times. To carry out this update, simply perform the following steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Go to ‘General’.
- Click on ‘Software update’
- Wait for the update to come out and proceed to install it.
As is common when a new version of software is released, the servers may not have the capacity to send the update to all users. In these cases it is best to be patient because it will eventually end up reaching all compatible equipment.
