How to Improve Dissipation Canon EOS R5 and Record 8K Video Without Limitation

The Canon EOS R5 is one of the most interesting cameras on the market, we already discussed this in our review. Even so, it is also one of the biggest disappointments of this 2020 due to the happy theme of warming. However, there are those who have managed to eliminate the problem with a “simple” homemade hack and can now record 8K without limitations.

Strengthening the dissipation system

How to Improve Dissipation Canon EOS R5 and Record 8K Video

This 2020 we have seen important launches in photography issues, very capable cameras both in photo and particularly in video. One of the most attractive has been the Canon EOS R5 , a true monster in photography, with a 45 megapixel sensor that offers outstanding results, and with the ability to record video at 8K resolution .

The problem with this Canon proposal is that it suffers from temperature problems . Something that the brand itself already confirmed during its presentation. Well, they didn’t say there was a problem, just that the recording times were limited due to the temperature of the camera. So after a specific number of minutes according to resolution and photographers per second, the camera had to stop to cool down.

The problem is that later these times were not such and even after a certain time off, it became unusable if you wanted to record something more intense. And of course, having a camera with such features that you really can’t use it… it just isn’t attractive.

For this reason, all those who got one started to try possible alternative and unofficial solutions to increase recording times. So they found out that by removing the battery the timer was reset and they could continue using the camera as is. Or by resorting to an external recorder so that the processor works less and reduces the internal temperature.

However, the most striking solution of all has been that of this user who has opened the camera (at his own risk) to add a couple of additional heating pads . In this way, the Canon EOS R5 has an extra when it comes to dissipating heat and now it allows to record 8K video internally without limitation.

After placing heating pads in the area of the Canon Digic processor plus a couple more on the DRAM chips the camera stayed cool longer. As much as you can see in the unedited video, it is capable of recording without time limitation.

Why Canon Doesn’t Do the Same

Seeing all these homemade solutions that have been coming out, one wonders, why does Canon not do this? Why not improve the dissipation by adding something a priori as simple as a second heating pad?

Something must be escaping us. Because they may still have some interest in keeping their range of film cameras at a certain value, especially after the launch of the EOS Cinema C70, but they could sell many more EOS R5s if this issue of heating became a simple anecdote of launching.
