Import and Export Contacts on Android

Nowadays almost all the procedures with the contacts in Android are carried out from the Google app, in charge of storing all the names and telephone numbers of our agenda so that when changing mobile it is enough to use the same email to keep the same contacts.

However, for whatever reason, it is possible to store them on the device, on the SIM card, or vice versa.

Option 1: Manage the phone app

Each phone app in each layer of personalization is different, but, fortunately, importing and exporting contacts is very simple. You just have to open the app, scroll to the contacts page and click on the options button, generally identified with a 3-point symbol at the top.

Here you must select settings and, among the available options, import or export contacts depending on what you want to do. This is where what is offered by each manufacturer changes but you can import contacts from another phone or from the current mobile phone’s own storage (either on the SIM card or in the internal memory). This will allow you to save the numbers in the Google account of your choice.

When exporting, we can take the numbers saved in the Google account to the phone’s storage, either internally or to the MicroSD to generate a vcf file that we can share with whoever we want and then import it from another phone.

Option 2: Use Google Contacts

Before discussing importing and exporting contacts, it’s worth noting that if you save your numbers in the Google Contacts app, which is installed by default on almost all phones today, and you have your account set up to back up security and sync with Google Drive, they will be automatically saved in the cloud

To import the contacts from the SIM you must open the Google Contacts app and click on the three lines in the upper left corner. From here, select Settings and then scroll down until you find the Manage Contacts section. Select Import, then select the SIM card option or the VCF file mentioned above and then press OK.
