As summer approaches, you may find yourself away from home for an extended period and not wanting to pay for unused fiber service. Fortunately, depending on your internet service provider, you may be able to temporarily turn off your fiber while you’re away and then reactivate it when you return. However, it’s important to know how to do this properly to avoid unnecessary charges.
This option can be particularly appealing for students leaving their city residences for summer break or individuals going on a long vacation. While some internet providers offer free disconnection and reconnection, others may not. It’s important to check with your provider for their specific policies and procedures.

Temporary suspension up to 3 months
Many internet service providers offer users the option to temporarily suspend their fiber line and receive a reduced fee. For instance, MásMóvil allows customers to disconnect their fiber for a minimum of 30 days and up to 90 days, with the option to adjust the disconnection according to their needs. While users will continue to pay for their fiber plan, they will only have to pay 50% of the rate during the suspension period. This feature is particularly useful during the summer, but can be utilized throughout the year as needed.

If you are an Orange user, you can temporarily suspend your mobile lines with great ease. However, if you wish to pause your fiber line, you will have to follow a similar protocol to that of MásMóvil and Jazztel. You can request a suspension of your fiber line for a period between 30 and 90 days, but you will have to pay 50% of your bill during that time.
It is important to note that this option is only available once per calendar year of service. Jazztel also offers a similar suspension of their fiber service under the same conditions, with the same 50% payment requirement. While it may not be ideal to pay any amount to pause your fiber line, a 50% discount can be a good way to save money while you’re away.
For students
Vodafone recognizes that students leaving their residences during the course is a common reason for wanting to temporarily suspend fiber service. As such, the operator offers this service to Yuser, which is a popular fiber plan among young people, without any type of permanence.
The Yuser plan allows customers to pause their fiber service between May and July, essentially for free, with only a €3 management fee. To request this service, customers can simply call Vodafone’s Customer Service department at 22123. It is worth noting that service resumption is not immediate, and the fiber will be reactivated automatically at the beginning of August.

Usually not possible
As a general rule, it is not possible to temporarily suspend fiber services with most carriers. While some operators have attempted to offer such a service, they have not been successful. For example, Movistar previously offered a possible option to suspend landline services and cancel fiber for a limited period, but this idea was ultimately abandoned. At present, most operators do not support the option to pause fiber services. Thus, the only choices are to either cancel the service or continue paying during the summer months.
That being said, there are some exceptions to this rule. Vodafone offers a temporary suspension service for students with its Yuser fiber rate, which is one of the best rates without permanence. Students can pause their fiber service for three months by paying a management fee of 3 euros. However, it is important to note that the service will automatically resume at the beginning of August.
If you plan to go on vacation for an extended period, it may be worthwhile to consider cancelling your fiber service and then contracting a new one when you return. This could also be an opportunity to switch to a new operator.
