As for Microsoft Windows operating system, we tend to have an impression that it comes with a fixed price to use it. That why users complained about ads and promotional messages because they paid for it, the license is not cheap either. Consumers demand ad-free experiences, especially when using a Windows operating system, which is different from those who use free software that have to provide ads to generate their profits.
Microsoft in particular has been accused of presenting unwanted suggestions and third-party ads in the operating system in the course of the years. Many of these messages are received more as an interference than advice. Fortunately, Microsoft appears to be listening and is now rolling out a new feature for the task, in the coming version of Windows 11.
Designed for Easy Management of Settings
The latest updates of Windows 11, notably in Insider channels, is a rubric Privacy and Security in the Settings app menu. The most important modification is the appearance of a new Recommendations and Offers page, which was stand-in by the General Settings page. It helps the users to have control on which pop-up recommendations are displayed in different sections of the system.
It will be interesting to note that the new addition of Personalized Offers will let you turn on or off your suggestions, ads, and recommendations for your activity. Because Microsoft has been under much criticism in the past for using such recommendations this change will be well welcomed by users.
Further to this, Microsoft is changing the previously known option ‘Allow me to show you personalized ads’ to Advertising ID. This setting provides user’s the option of when and how they want to be targeted with ads from within the operating system.
At the moment, they are implemented only in the Beta and Canary builds of Windows 11, but the changes should be a part of the larger Windows 11 24H2 update. This update will assist the users to personalise their usage and bring the Windows 11 in a closer repertoire to their tastes before the graceful exiting of the windows 10 support.
Microsoft expects to enhance this new operating system to be more eye-catching and easy to use as more clients switch from window 10 to window 11.
This brief message is an example of the on-going dynamic between Microsoft and its users trying to find the appropriate middle ground for creating value for its business from users of windows 11. This way the company is showing a slight concern with how they can make users’ experience less disruptive through ads and recommendations.
