You can use Gemini in Microsoft Edge by opening Google’s web app; you do not need an extension for that. Edge and Chrome can also open the site in its own app window, with a shortcut on your desktop or taskbar.
Installing the site as an app gives you a convenient way to launch it. It still uses your browser’s engine and Gemini’s online service. It does not make Edge’s built-in assistant become Gemini.
Do I need a Gemini extension for Edge?
For ordinary web access, go straight to gemini.google.com/app. Sign in with the Google Account you want to use when prompted. A work or school account may need permission from its administrator.
An extension with “Gemini” in its name may come from a separate developer. Check who made it and what access it requests before installing it. The browser-app method below does not require adding one.
How to add Gemini as an app in Microsoft Edge
- Open Gemini’s official website in a normal Edge window.
- Check that the page works and that you are using the right Google Account.
- Open Settings and more, the three-dot menu.
- Choose More tools → Apps → Install this site as an app. Some versions show Apps directly in the menu.
- Name the app Gemini and confirm the installation.
- Open
edge://apps, choose the app’s details and add a Start, taskbar or desktop shortcut if wanted.

How to install the Gemini web app in Chrome
- Open Gemini’s official website in Chrome.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Choose Cast, save, and share → Install page as app. The menu may be called Save and share in an older version.
- Follow the installation prompt and open the new app window.
- Use
chrome://appsto manage the app or create a shortcut.
