Create a shortcut to web pages in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and more

When we sit in front of the computer, most of the time we spend surfing the Internet. Among all the pages that we can find on the net, surely there are only a few that we visit frequently and even several times a day. If every time we want to visit those websites we have to open a new browser window or tab and write the address, we may lose a lot of time with it. Therefore, it can be very useful for us to create shortcuts to our favorite websites to save on the taskbar or on the Windows desktop.

In this way, we will be able to access different web pages with a single click regardless of the task we are doing at that moment. Thus, it will no longer be necessary to minimize or close the window in which we are working to go to the browser or open a new instance, type the address of the site and navigate to it.

We will only need a single click on the shortcut located on the taskbar or the desktop. Although it is true that browsers allow us to add websites to their bookmarks or favorites, if we do not have it open, we will have to open a new window, go to the bookmarks, search for the site we want to visit and select it to enter in it. It is also possible to always leave our favorite websites open in the browser, however, this will cause us to be consuming important resources of our PC unnecessarily, especially if there are many tabs.

Therefore, the most comfortable, easiest and fastest solution to be able to quickly access our favorite websites is to create a direct access, something that we can do very easily in different browsers.

Add direct access to a website from the browser

Depending on the browser that we use most often, we will have a different method to be able to add a direct access to our favorite website to the desktop or taskbar in Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Google Chrome

If we are users of Google Chrome as the default browser, then we have to open it and access the web page that we want to save as a shortcut. Subsequently, from the browser menu button represented by three buttons that are in the upper right, click on the More Tools option and click on Create shortcut . Now we only have to give it a name and automatically we will see how a direct access to that website is created on our desktop.

Another way that we have available is, with the browser open to the page we need, hold down the padlock-shaped icon and drag it to the desktop. This will automatically create a shortcut to that web page. This will work if we have Chrome configured as the default browser, otherwise the shortcut will be created for this browser.

MozillaFirefox

If we are one of those who use the Mozilla browser , say that Firefox does not have an option to create a shortcut from its Settings menu. Then we will have to open a browser window and visit the web that we want to have as a direct access. Once loaded, we only have to click on the padlock that appears in the address bar next to the name of our website to a free space on the desktop. Once we have created the icon on the Desktop you can drag it to the Taskbar if we want to have it more at hand.

Microsoft Edge

If we use the Microsoft browser that has come to replace the classic Internet Explorer, it also has methods to create a direct access to our favorite website.

To do this, we open Edge and enter the web page that interests us. Then click on the button with three points located in the upper right corner. This will open a menu where we must position ourselves in More tools . Now a side menu will open on the left where we will have the option to Pin to the taskbar or Pin to the start , depending on the option we prefer.

As in other cases, we can stop pressing the pointer on the padlock that appears next to the web address and drag it to the desktop to automatically create a shortcut. If we have Edge configured as the default browser, it will open with it every time we double-click.

Opera

Another of the most popular browsers is Opera, so it may be one of the most commonly used. It must be said that this does not have any function in its Configuration menu that allows us to create a direct access to the desktop, the taskbar or the Start menu. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have this possibility, because just like in other browsers, all you have to do is hold down the cursor on the padlock icon that appears on the left of the address bar and drag it to the desktop. Automatically, it will create a direct access to that website, which we can add to the toolbar or the start menu if necessary

Create a shortcut to a website from the desktop

Another option that we have available to create a direct access to a website from our browser is to do it from the Windows desktop.

To do this, right-click on a blank space on the desktop and select “New” and “Direct access”. Next, we must write the path where Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera or another browser that we want to use is hosted followed by the URL that we want to open. For example:

  • For Google Chrome :

"C:/Program Files/Google/Chrome/Application/chrome.exe" https://www.softzone.es

  • For Mozilla Firefox :

"C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/firefox.exe" https://www.softzone.es

  • For Microsoft Edge :

"%windir%explorer.exe" microsoft-edge: https://www.softzone.es

  • For Opera :

"C:/Users/Fran/AppData/Local/Programs/Opera" https://www.softzone.es
