How to reset all achievements of any game on Steam

Through Steam, the PC game store client, users have access to a wide range of functionalities. In addition to purchasing and launching games, the platform offers various features and opportunities for interaction with other players.

One notable aspect of the Steam client is its ability to track and store achievements earned within the games in our library. However, there may come a time when users wish to reset these accumulated achievements, especially after using the platform for an extended period.

Fortunately, it is indeed possible to reset achievements on Steam by following the steps outlined below. This trick, not widely known, allows users to individually reset achievements for each game in their Steam library.

Open Steam Console

The store client does not provide a built-in function to directly reset achievements. While some games may offer the option to reset player progress, which can impact Steam achievements, not all games have this feature. In such cases, we can explore an alternative method to reset achievements on our own.

To accomplish this, we will utilize a feature known as the Steam client console. Accessing the console requires opening the Windows Run window, which can be done by pressing the Win + R keyboard shortcut. Once the Run window appears, we can enter the following command:

steam://open/console

By executing the command mentioned above, the console of the game store client will be displayed on your screen, allowing you to interact with it directly.

We will utilize the console to input the required commands for resetting the game achievements.

Commands to reset achievements

Say that initially the command that we will have to use is this:

achievement_clear.

To begin, we must identify the game for which we wish to reset the achievements. We can obtain this information from SteamDB, the platform’s database, accessible through this link. Once there, we can search for the desired game and copy its AppID.

appid steam

After obtaining the AppID, we proceed to navigate to the Achievements section of the chosen game. Here, a list will be displayed containing all the achievements along with their corresponding API names. We carefully select the particular achievement we wish to reset and make a note of its name.

Now, we can proceed to use the command mentioned earlier, but with the parameters required to reset the specific achievement of the game. In order to achieve this, we need to create our own custom command following the provided format:

achievement_clear <AppID> <achievement name>

The crucial step is to ensure that we accurately enter both the AppID of the game in question and the achievement name we previously identified. We will know that the entire process has been successful when the following message appears in the Steam console:

achievement_clear success

At this stage, it is worth noting that we also have the option to reset all achievements at once for a specific game. Simply use the following command, followed by the respective AppID of the title:

reset_all_stats <AppID>

However, it is important to exercise caution when using this command, as depending on the game, it may not work as intended or potentially affect important game statistics. It is recommended to thoroughly understand the implications and potential consequences before proceeding with the reset command.
