Apple HomePods are great speakers. Its audio technology is positively valued by many of the thousands of users who have one or even two working in stereo. Can a HomePod be connected to any television?
The answer is no . In fact there is an even more emphatic negative answer if we stick to explain it, since not only is it not possible to reproduce the audio of a HomePod on any television, but it will not be possible on many Smart TVs either . We do not know the exact reason why Apple has not provided this connectivity speaker with these devices via bluetooth, but the truth is that they are not compatible. Not even those televisions that have AirPlay compatibility will be able to play the audio through this speaker, at least for the moment.
Only way to connect a TV with a HomePod
Not being able to connect our televisions natively to a HomePod is a great inconvenience, we will not deny it. We miss being able to enjoy series, movies and programs on traditional television channels through the powerful Apple speaker. However, it is not all bad news if you have an Apple TV , since this is the only device through which we can reproduce the sound of our television on a HomePod.
If you have an Apple TV HD or 4K and want to connect it to the HomePod, you must follow these steps:
- Make sure that your HomePod and Apple TV are updated to their latest available software versions.
- Start playing the audio you want to stream.
- Press the ‘App / Home’ button on the Siri Remote on Apple TV to open the control center.
- Select AirPlay.
- Choose HomePod as the speaker through which to stream audio.
If you have two HomePods located on each side of the television, in stereo format, you can connect both at the same time. Of course, you must make sure that both the Apple TV and the HomePod are linked through the same WiFi network and that AirPlay is working correctly on both,
If something good has tvOS, the Apple TV operating system, it is that it has more and more streaming content applications. Netflix, HBO, YouTube, Apple TV + itself and even other types of content such as music and podcasts can be played on this device and, therefore, on the HomePod. Therefore, within the poor compatibility of this, we find good news.
We do not know if perhaps in a future update of the HomePod or a hypothetical second generation, Apple will open more compatibilities to be able to reproduce audios in it coming from televisions as a source.
