You can now choose who can and cannot reply to your posts on Twitter . The company updates its mobile applications for iOS and Android, so you can take advantage of this new functionality that, in theory, aims to improve the control of the conversation on said platform. We tell you how it works and how to select each of the options.
How to choose who can reply to your tweets

Twitter began testing in May a new feature through which would allow users of its platform could choose who may or may not reply to a tweet (to reply). Now that option has officially arrived through the latest updates to its mobile applications (version 8.30).
Both on iOS and Android this new feature is already available. However, in the web version and the native applications for other systems not yet. Something that is not a big problem either, since most users continue to use their mobile device as the main one when reading and publishing on Twitter.
Regarding the operation, this is very simple and basically consists of creating your tweet on a regular basis and then selecting who can or cannot interact with it through the replies. But we are going to see it step by step to make it much clearer:

- The first step is to open the Twitter application on your Android or iOS smartphone.
- Then, hit the create new tweet button and write your message, add photos, audio or any other element of the supported ones
- At the bottom of the text box you will see that a text will now appear indicating who can and cannot respond . Tap and you can change the option
As you can see, choosing who will or will not be able to interact with your Twitter posts is very simple. Now you have to know what they are and how they affect the conversation. So let’s look at each of the three options, although they are easy to understand:
- All allows any Twitter user to reply to your posts ( reply to your tweets)
- People you follow is only so that those profiles (following) you follow can reply to you
- Only the people you mention will only and exclusively allow the profiles you have mentioned with the @username to reply
Now it is up to each one to decide how they are going to use this new implementation that Twitter has made available to all users of its platform.
Removing noise from Twitter

Being able to choose who will have or not to reply to your posts on Twitter is a good way to control conversations within the platform. Even so, it is not perfect, because there is still an option to reply via, for example, a mention or screenshot outside of that conversation.
That is, if some other user wants to reply, they can do so, but that message will be outside the main or original message. Therefore, what this option really does is eliminate noise , something that could be used very well in threads that would be much friendlier and easier to read for interested users.
If your intention is to get rid of all those who “pass by” and get into the conversation without invitation, then you would have to combine this option with others that affect how the platform itself notifies you when someone interacts with your tweets.
You can do the latter from the Twitter settings.
- Open the Twitter app and go to Settings
- Within Settings and privacy select Notifications
- Now go to Advanced Filters
- Select the options you want to mute (people you don’t follow, people who don’t follow you, new accounts, etc.)
Knowing each and every one of the options of Twitter you can increase control over the platform and improve its own use. For example, also with the use of lists that are increasingly practical and useful despite having been with us for many years.
