Technical Comparison GPUs RX 5500 XT vs GTX 1650 SUPER

When you are shopping for an entry-level or mid-range graphics card, it ‘s easy to get overwhelmed by the number of models out there, so it’s important to set a budget. But, even with an equal budget, there are several options to take into account, so in this article we are going to try to get you out of doubt by making a technical comparison with two of the most popular graphics card models in this segment: AMD RX 5500 XT vs NVIDIA GTX 1650 SUPER .

Both graphics cards have fairly similar prices, although in this case the NVIDIA has a slightly lower price than the AMD. It is essential to remember, however, that the AMD RX 5500 XT has a variant of 8 GB of memory, but for this comparison we will use the 4 GB since it is the one that is equivalent in terms of price to the GTX 1650 SUPER.

GPUs RX 5500 XT vs GTX 1650 SUPER

Here you can see two examples of graphics that are currently for sale, and although obviously the price depends on the store and the assembler, in this case they are the models of each of them that are cheaper on Amazon.

As we said, the NVIDIA version is a little cheaper than the AMD version, so which of the two is more worth buying?

If we analyze the chips as is, we find that the GPU of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER is considerably larger than that of the AMD RX 5500 XT and, however, the difference in transistors between one and the other is not so great. This is due to the difference lithographs between the two, since AMD is built on the node 7 nm TSMC while NVIDIA it is at 12 nm, allowing AMD to have a graphical much more efficient.

Inside we find that the RX 5500 XT is slightly superior to the GTX 1650 SUPER, as it incorporates 2 additional CUs that allow AMD graphics to provide 128 more Shaders and 8 more TMUs, although both graphics have the same ROPs.

To this we must add that the AMD GPU in this case has higher operating speeds than NVIDIA, so adding the two we already know that it will also have more performance. In raw FP32 compute data, AMD’s GPU has 5,196 TFLOPS vs. 4,416 TFLOPS from NVIDIA .

In addition, a curious factor although it does not influence performance is that AMD’s graphics is more modern and uses a PCI-Express 4.0 x8 interface, while NVIDIA uses a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface. The bandwidth is exactly the same, so as we said it does not influence at all, but it is worth mentioning for compatibility reasons.

As for VRAM memory, both graphics have 4 GB GDDR6 with a 128-bit bus, but again the AMD graphic is superior because thanks to its faster speed, it is capable of delivering much higher bandwidth, which it will also translate into better gaming performance.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the fact that although the AMD graphics is more efficient it is also more powerful, and this is evident when we look at the consumption. The RX 5500 XT consumes 130W and requires an 8-pin PCIe connector from the power supply, while the GTX 1650 SUPER consumes 100W , 30 watts less, allowing it to require only a 6-pin PCIe connector.

Gaming performance

Both graphics cards are designed to offer good performance in games at 1080p resolution and with graphics settings if not to the maximum, yes at least on high. For higher resolutions they have a pretty bad time, especially for its scarce 4 GB of VRAM, although as we commented at the beginning the RX 5500 XT has a variant with 8 GB of VRAM, although it is quite more expensive.

Rendimiento RX 5500 XT vs GTX 1650 SUPER v2

As expected, the Radeon RX 5500 XT has been slightly superior in all cases except AC: Odyssey, a game that as you know is optimized for NVIDIA graphics. In any case, the performance difference is not too great.

Which graphic is more worth buying?

Actually, the price difference of 20 euros is not too high, just as the performance difference is not very large. Given the choice, we would opt for the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT precisely because as the price difference is so small, we choose to have better performance and, above all, greater consistency in it.

Now, if your budget is very tight, then your option would be the NVIDIA GTX 1650 SUPER, which provides a fairly similar performance being cheaper and with the plus that it has a lower consumption.
