Google TV Will Add User Profiles to the Home Screen

Google TV will finally implement the use of profiles in an upcoming operating system update. A feature that should already have been, but has not been. Because no matter how much they say there are devices that are not used only by one person but by several and one of them is the television.

Independent user profiles on Google TV

Nueva actualización de la interfaz de Android TV

Today if there is a feature that any operating system should offer yes or yes, especially those of those devices that are well known to be used by several people normally, it is the user profiles.

As much as they try to convince us, there are devices that are not personal but are shared with other users or people who live with us. One of them is the television, although we could put several more examples such as Apple‘s iPad.

Well, related to the world of smart TVs, we now know that a future version of Google TV will give full support for the use of different user profiles. And that is important, because aspects such as the home screen and its recommendations will finally be something that will only depend on the tastes and content viewed by that user and not by the rest of those who also use the product.

This has been known through version 1.0.370 of the Google TV Home application for mobile devices. What is unknown is when it will arrive so that all those who have Google TV (and hopefully also for those who use Android TV) can enjoy this option that would allow them to forget about that common problem of watching recommendations for SpongeBob videos or Pepa Pig with the latest Netflix horror series or Prime Video.

Now Google TV, hopefully the rest soon

The use of profiles is something essential to add not only to Google TV, but also to any other platform for smart TVs that currently exists, such as tvOS, Fire TV OS, Tizen, webOS, etc.

Because if platforms like Netflix or Prime Video among many others already do it, why not the operating systems where they run. Especially since they are betting a lot on the use of home screens that put the user and their personalized recommendations at the center of the whole experience. Much more than the hundreds of apps available, etc.

So we hope that soon this that will reach the Google system will spread among the rest of the options that do not have it yet. Because it is necessary, because it would really improve the user experience even in those moments where we sit down to watch something accompanied with friends, the couple or the whole family.

And for the latter, for children, they are even more necessary. Because they would make the use of parental controls much easier, something that also seems to be improved in this next version with which the profiles arrived. Because specific programs can be eliminated from the recommendations even when the classification system considers it valid for them by age.

So now you just have to wait and be attentive to possible updates that may appear for devices that make use of Google TV.
