The new version of Windows 10, the October 2020 Update, or 20H2, has been around for a week now. As expected, this has been a minor update more focused on fixing bugs and debugging the system rather than bringing big news. However, even though we were expecting the update to be small, we expected to have seen something more in it.
The new version of Windows 10 is already in the air, although Microsoft is opting for a very slow distribution with which the number of users who have received it through Windows Update is very small. The October 2020 Update is an update of just 100 megabytes , which is installed in just a few seconds (yes, if we have the computer in 2004 with all the other patches), and, although some users are experiencing problems, the The truth is that it is not working at all badly. There are versions that have worked much worse from launch.
What has disappointed the 20H2 is the little amount of changes we have seen in it, and we expected to see something else, some change or some more important feature that would shape the new version of Windows 10.
Change in the appearance of the Windows 10 20H2 notification center
Microsoft has taken advantage of this new version of Windows to modify the appearance of some Windows elements, such as the Start menu. Now, all the elements of this menu (icons, Live Tiles, etc.) are configured according to the theme of our operating system and fit much better in all of it. However, we would have liked to see some other similar improvements in other Windows elements as well, such as the notification center.
It is true that Microsoft is working on a complete redesign of the appearance of Windows, which is known as Sun Valley. However, we expected to have seen something more with this new version of the system.
Removing folders from the start menu
Continuing with the change in the appearance of the start menu, there is still one item left in the list of programs: folders. Most of the programs add their icon just inside this start menu so we will always have it at hand. However, there are programs that, instead of adding their shortcut to the list of applications in the start menu, add a folder. And inside it, all kinds of files that are completely left over (text, uninstallers, etc.).
This completely breaks the aesthetics of Windows 10, and we hope that Microsoft will reconsider soon and do what is necessary so that only the icons of the installed programs appear there, and nothing else.
Sets, tabs in the browser
Microsoft is a cruel company. After letting them try Windows’ best feature Sets for a while, she suddenly decided to remove it entirely, and not a word has been said about it since. Sets was a new Windows 10 feature that came to Insider users, which allowed us to create tabs within any Windows window, such as the file explorer or notepad.
This would greatly improve productivity when working with multiple windows at the same time. However, this feature seems to have become somewhat taboo for Microsoft.
New multimedia controls for Windows 10 20H2
We have already seen some concept of a series of new multimedia controls for Windows 10 . Instead of displaying the volume and controls drop-down box at the top left of the screen, it will move to the bottom right, next to the volume icon, bringing everything related to volume together in one place operating system.
However, not even in the last 21H1 build we can see this change. It seems that Microsoft has forgotten about it as it has happened with Sets.
