8 Common Noob Mistakes to Avoid While Playing League of Legends

Of the millions that play League of legends, only 1 percent qualify as pros. If you are not in this elite category, chances are you’ve been making an array of mistakes, hampering your progress. While you can approach League of Legends from a casual angle, taking this route is a sure-fire way of staying at the bottom of this highly competitive e-sport. If you want to hone your League of legends skills, you need to be on a constant search for ways to up your game.

There are numerous guides out there that teach you what to do, but very few warn against things you shouldn’t do. In this read, we will take a look at the most common mistakes LoL noobs make and how to avoid them.

League of Legends

Noob Builds

There are numerous guides on the essential items for every champion, but these can lead to a build that is not well-suited to counter your opponents’ strengths. So, do not create a build blindly. If YI keeps tagging you, consider picking up some Thornmail. If you’re getting wrecked by Brand or a similar AP, get your Magic Resist going.

Also, press Tab and watch what your enemies are building so that you can pick up the right equipment for a counter.

Not Pinging

Pings are there for a reason: they help players quickly communicate with each other without halting and type, making themselves vulnerable to enemies. So, take the time to learn them and use them. A league ping test tool measures your latency to LOL and gives you accurate results. The ‘enemies missing’ ping, represented by a question map on the map, is vital when an opponent leaves lane, thus exposing your partners to a gank. Another important ping is ‘on my way,’ which lets your allies know that backup is incoming, allowing them to plan their attacks accordingly.

Of course, there are more, and a simple search on Google will give a more detailed explanation of how to use them. Learn them and watch your game improve dramatically.

Arguing With Allies

The internet is full of trolls, and in League of legends, the story is the same. Be it blaming you for their death, racial slurs, or intentionally feeding; you will always come across toxic players. Practice positive communication with your allies, and do not be a jerk. Teamwork and ensuring you’re all on the same page actually help you win matches.

Not Warding

This is a hugely underrated part of League of legends, especially on the lower levels. If you can pull it off, you will not have a hard time dominating the non-warding competition. If you’re among the many that do not understand warding, a Google search will always come in handy. You can also watch tutorials on YouTube for a better explanation.

Overextending

Unless you have years of experience on League of legends, avoid tower driving or engaging in a three on one, chances are you will die.

Unless you have played the game for a long time and know what you’re doing, avoid hanging around the opponent’s side of the map, especially when three of your teammates are dead. Overextending is simply feeding the opponent’s team.

Ignoring Farming

One of the most common noob mistakes that take you down faster than you think is overlooking the importance of farms. This is a mistake that’s common with beginners who fail to pay attention to their economy. Farming is an integral part of LoL, and so, getting up to 3 times the gold that the opponent gets automatically puts you in a stronger position than them.

Also, you need to note that if you kill between 12 and 18 minions, you will earn the same number of points as you would if you score a champion.

Underestimating the Objectives

LoL’s primary objective is to get ahead of the opponent instead of going on a rampage and killing all the opponents in an uncontrolled fashion. So, have the objectives in the back of your mind as you play the game.

Killing off the Dragon or Baron will give you a good head start, but focusing on the smaller/neutral mobs can be just as effective or even more effective than going for the Dragon or Baron.

Also, pushing your lane to the opponent’s turrets, enabling you to farm for those neutral opponents hiding in the jungle, is more effective than waiting for them to push back.

Taking on The Turret

As tempting as it is, noobs make the mistake of fighting under the turret. Even if you are a pro gamer in LoL, this is a strategy you should never implement. Doing this almost always ascertains losing your life and even your allies.

But why are turrets a big deal? Well, they inflict damage that scales with varying consecutive, and they will prioritize champions, causing massive damage to the rest. So, avoid taking on a turret, especially when alone, unless you are on a suicide mission.
