Everything we know about the future GPT-5

In 2022, numerous Artificial Intelligence projects and applications were released to the public, and many of them were offered free of charge. OpenAI and Bing Chat, two AI platforms that generate text based on a description, both rely on GPT-4, which was recently released. The question now is when will GPT-5 be available?

The first version of the GPT language predictive model was released by OpenAI in 2018, followed by GPT-2 in 2019 and GPT-3 in 2020. GPT-3.5 was launched in 2022, and just a few weeks ago, at the beginning of 2023, the latest version, GPT-4, was unveiled. GPT-4 boasts advanced features that surpass the capabilities of all previous versions.

Unlike its predecessors, GPT-4 can analyze texts and produce summaries, translate entire texts, automatically answer questions, extract critical information from documents, create visualizations from text, and much more. Bing Chat, from Microsoft, is already working to integrate the functionalities of GPT-4 into Office, making it an essential tool for private and business use alike.

When will GPT-5 be released?

Considering the consistent yearly release of GPT versions (except for 2021), it would be reasonable to assume that a new version of GPT, likely GPT-5, will be launched in 2024. However, there are differing rumors about the release date. While some suggest it could be early next year, others report that OpenAI is taking a more cautious approach.

At an event held at MIT, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, responded to a public question regarding a request to halt the technology’s development. He stated that they are not currently training the new version, and the development of GPT-5 is on hold for the time being.

It is probable that OpenAI is in the initial phase of collecting data for training GPT-5. However, data collection has become problematic for some countries due to copyright concerns surrounding the texts used to train AI models. This issue has led to some countries exploring the possibility of banning ChatGPT’s use.

In the meantime, OpenAI cannot afford to be complacent as Google is working on Bard, a competing AI platform to ChatGPT and Bing Chat. Bard is expected to be launched soon, and it poses a significant challenge to the market share of OpenAI’s offerings.
