Among the many projects Microsoft has embarked on, one of the most recent is its new Internet browser. This is the one that replaces the Edge that was launched in parallel with Windows 10 , now based on Google’s Chromium project. Well, the firm has just released a major update, as we will see.
In particular we refer to the new Edge 86 , the new stable version of the Microsoft Edge web browser based on Chromium. There are several novelties that come from the hand of this new version of the program. Here we can highlight a rollback function to return to previous versions of Edge, the profile change on computers with Windows 7 and 8.1, improvements with PDFs and more.
First of all we will say that Edge 86 is already available and should install automatically on most systems. We have the possibility of checking the installed version by opening its menu and going to Help and comments / About Microsoft Edge.
So what we do is do a manual check for updates when the page opens. This way the latest version will be installed automatically if it is not already installed. At the same time new users can download the latest stable version of Edge on their own.
Main novelties of the new Edge 86
Well, if we focus on the news that comes to the program , the internal use of cookies by the program is improved. With this, what is achieved is that these are only sent in a certain context. This way administrators can override that default on their websites . Similarly, administrators can use opt-out policies on a list of domains or globally.
On the other hand, it introduces important improvements in the use of PDF files. Edge 86 can now display the table of contents of PDF documents , and the PDF reader works on small-format screens. It also integrates a new highlighter that supports pens and document scrolling improvements.
Additionally, autocomplete suggestions are now displayed on the Microsoft Edge add-ons website when users start typing. It’s also worth noting that the Developer Tools keyboard shortcuts can be customized and users can delete files downloaded with Edge from the download manager.
Microsoft browser security enhancements
As I’m sure you know, one of the sections that is most taken into account when developing a browser is for everything related to security . That is why its creators take special care in all this, as is the case. The new Edge 86 now integrates a system of checks and alerts for the filtration of personal passwords . It also integrates a secure DNS support for computers that are not managed.
Another added feature is that administrators can add Internet Explorer mode to the Edge user interface, which is very useful in business environments. At the same time we already have the possibility to add a custom image to the new tab page through a group policy.
