Dasung Creates a 25-inch Diagonal E-ink Monitor

Dasung has the first 25.3-inch size e-ink monitor ready. A proposal that surely makes you wonder to what extent a product like this could be interesting or what type of user would be directed. Especially when you know that the price will not be exactly cheap.

An electronic ink monitor

E-ink-Monitor

Dasung is not a new company in all this of the development of devices with electronic ink screen or e-Ink. Moreover, they have been experimenting for some time with quite striking proposals that make use of this technology in devices that differ from the classic electronic book reader.

Their focus is on the creation of e-Ink screens with which they intend to help all those users who have certain vision problems and the continued use of the usual LCD screens ends up generating eye fatigue and other types of discomfort. Something that is due to the brightness they give off and even the flashes or flickers when changing contents.

For this reason, during these years they have launched proposals such as Dasung e-Ink Monitor and e-Ink Tablet . Both do not need many explanations because they are basically what you already intuit. The particularity is that they have an electronic ink screen instead of the classic LCD or OLED panel as some devices now offer.

Well, the latest release they are already prepared for is a 25.3-inch monitor. It would be practically the largest electronic ink screen and also with the highest resolution. Because what it offers at the level of sharpness are 3200 x 1800 pixels. Or what is the same, a 3K Quad HD + resolution.

Of course, beyond the density of pixels per inch that it is capable of reaching, or dots per inch rather, the big question is how a product with these characteristics behaves knowing that the experience with a smartphone with an LCD screen and another with a screen E-ink like the popular YotaPhone is so different.

Let’s see, it is clear that using an e-Ink screen and an LCD cannot be the same. The technologies are different and despite the advances there are issues such as the refresh rate that continue to be noticed. However, from what can be seen in the video shared on Weibo , the response time improves with respect to the preconceived idea that we can have many thanks to its DASUNG Turbo technology.

Therefore, although this would not logically be a proposal for the consumption of multimedia content, it could have a certain appeal for some jobs where text editors and other programs that do not require a full color image are basically used.

A first step, but at an excessive price

What is the big problem with this screen beyond the response time and being monochrome? Well the price. Developing this technology for a panel with such a diagonal is not economical. In the first place by the law of supply and demand itself. And secondly because it is something that could still be considered as under development.

That is why this Dasung proposal would cost around 2,000 euros . And of course, paying that for a 15-inch screen when for three times less you have LCD screens with 4K resolution, higher diagonal, etc., seems complicated. Although again it must be said that this is not a product for everyone but only for those who can truly benefit from it.

So, we will have to see how this sector evolves and if the effort invested really ends up bearing fruit and it is worth considering solutions of this type or not.
