Criticism against the Google Pixel 7: its cameras are no longer so good

The Google Pixel 7 are the mobile phones of the moment due to their great features and good quality cameras. However, if you opt for them for their photographic experience, you may be very disappointed . There are many people who have gotten hold of this model who complain about a problem with their camera.

Specifically, we are talking about its aggressive image post-processing that has caused great discontent and a stir among its users. If you are passionate about photography, you may be disappointed to try it, unless Google decides to fix it as soon as possible. This happens on both the rear and front cameras , which create far worse images than expected.

Why are your pictures so bad?

This function of the Google camera is causing numerous problems for its users, who perceive poor quality in the final result and unnatural and somewhat darkened images . There are not a few who complain about the poor processing of the images of the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro in photos that are not in RAW format.

The poor photographic experience is scaring away potential buyers of this phone and increasing complaints from those who already have it. It even changes the color of the eyes and hair , according to some owner of this phone model.

So much so that someone who has gone from a Samsung to the Google Pixel 7 Pro has regretted his decision:

I’m coming from a Note 20 and have had the P7P for the last 3 days. Overall I’m happy with the phone but the images are TERRIBLE after processing. This is for front and rear cameras. It’s to the point where my wife asked me not to take photos using my phone because they just aren’t flattering anymore. I know a camera isn’t everything to a phone, but I may need to go back to Samsung.

Another comment clearly shows what is happening and accompanies it with an image in which we can see it with our own eyes:

The attached file also shows how automatic Pixel processing makes photos darker than they appear to the naked eye . I think you should read recent reviews on the Play Store regarding the Pixel’s camera app and see for yourself the queries about automatic image processing, if they don’t line up with what I’ve shared. The problem here is that there should be an option to turn ‘image processing’ on or off and it’s quite interesting how no one from Google responds to user feedback/reviews on the Play Store regarding this issue.

Also keep in mind that although the result is less natural and there are many complaints about it, there are people who like how it looks because it creates more vibrant and dramatic images . It is not the best if you are looking for something natural, but it can be interesting for other things.

What you can do to temporarily fix it

For now, Google hasn’t commented on this or whether it will fix it, however, there may be some workarounds in the meantime. Many users have tried different things and have shared their experience.

One of the things you can do is turn to third-party cameras that allow manual control of the camera’s settings. So you can manually adjust contrast and other settings for more natural images without relying on Google algorithms.

Another option, as suggested in one of the complaints, is to opt for the RAW format to capture images, in order to have better control over the final result of the image , although you must appreciate that these photos take up much more space. This is inconvenient if you don’t have a lot of storage available or want to take a lot of photos, but if not give it a try. You can also, although it will not be the same, try to adjust the camera settings within the native app.

We do not know what will happen or if Google is going to take a step in this regard with a new update, but we will be aware if it finally decides to do so and improve the image experience in the captures of its users. As you see it?
