It’s the feeling of the moment: if you don’t have an avatar on Facebook, you’re totally out of the loop. Mark Zuckerberg’s social network has launched this new feature that allows you to create an animated character with your traits to use as a sticker in your conversations with your contacts. Its creation is quite easy but at first you may be a little lost and you do not know exactly how it is done. Don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for: settle in and take aim.
Facebook Avatars, what are they?
If you move through other social networks or platforms, the idea may already be familiar to you. This type of format has been used by Apple for example through its Messages app and with Facetime for a long time (they are the famous Memojis) and they are nothing but animated “stickers” that represent us. How? Well, with features that we can choose to personalize the image until it looks as much as possible to us – well, that is the intention, then each one can be “designed” as they see fit.
Despite the fact that it seems quite an accessory, the truth is that the Memojis had enough pull when they presented themselves and even launched apps that were responsible for making replicas to use on Android. Now it is Facebook that follows in the wake of the stickers in the image and likeness of its users, offering the so-called Avatars.
With them, you can have your own package of personalized stickers, an animated collection in which the protagonist is you. And creating it is as easy as following the steps detailed below.
How to create an Avatar on Facebook
The first and most important thing to keep in mind (and that not everyone knows) is that Avatars are created through the Facebook app. It can not be done via the web (or in the PC or mobile browser), so yes or yes, you will have to have the application installed on your phone (either an Android terminal or an iPhone).
With this clear, what you should do is the following:
- Enter the Facebook app on your smartphone.
- You have two ways to enter the Avatar editor:
- If you see someone’s Avatar in a comment, you can directly touch the blue button “Create your avatar” to access the platform.
- If not , don’t worry: just go into a post to comment and tap on the smiley face icon in the lower right corner instead. You will enter an options panel (this is where all the stikers are saved). Tap on the second icon, pink-purple, and you will see a blue “Create your avatar” button appear. Tap on it to access the platform.
- You will enter the editor of Avatars. Tap next to start.
- You will have to choose your skin tone. Select it and tap “Next”.
- Now you will have to customize the rest of the features: hairstyle, hair color, face shape, eyes, etc., until you find the image you want.
- Once you have all the details chosen, tap “Done”. Your Avatar will be generated. Wait until the blue “Next” button is displayed.
- Tap “Done”.
You already have your Avatar ready to use. In the panel that will appear with your “mini me” once the creation process is finished, you will see that there is a Stickers icon (it is the second one in the upper right corner), where you can see all the reactions that have been generated from of your Avatar and ranging from crying to laughter, going through affirmations, celebrations or farewells (they are in English, yes).
You can use them in any Facebook Messenger conversation, just as you used the other Stickers you had available, as well as in any comment you make on social network posts.
How to modify an already created Facebook Avatar
In case you want to make any type of modification to your Avatar, you have it as easy as accessing the editor whenever you want to modify your hair, nose, change clothes or add accessories. The steps are very similar to creating it:
- Enter the Facebook application on your phone.
- There are two ways to enter the Avatar Editor to modify it:
- Or by tapping on the blue button “Create Avatar” on the Avatar of someone you see in any comment or conversation.
- Or instead, entering any post to comment and instead, tapping in the lower right corner on the Avatar icon – the first one that appears in the lower right corner, next to GIF. Your sticker pack will open directly and you only have to tap on “Edit avatar”.
- Once inside your Avatar Editor, tap on the third icon (the one with the pencil) in the upper right corner.
- Edit everything you want.
- In case you want to delete it, you can touch the trash can icon too.
- Once you’re done, tap “Done”. Wait for the changes to take effect and tap “Next”.
- You will return to your Avatar panel. Tap the cross in the upper left corner when you want to leave the editor.
Now you just have to add creativity to the matter. All yours.
