Realme has launched 3 models this year to begin to renew its mid-range, the realme 8, the realme 8 5G and the realme 8 Pro. We have already talked at length about the last of them but between the first two there are many more differences than the ones. that we can guess from its name.
When we find two versions of the same phone, one 4G and the other 5G, we think that the only thing that changes between the two is the processor that allows us to connect to one network or another. This is not true between the two mid-range smartphones of the manufacturer that have many more differences than similarities.
Although by design they may seem the same, there are really only a couple of things that they have in common, as you will see in this comparison between the realme 8 and the realme 8 5G .
Just a couple of similarities between the Realme 8 and the Realme 8 5G
One of the few similarities that we are going to find between the two smartphones is the design. Both one and the other bet on almost identical lines and shapes, where in the front we have a perforated screen to house a front camera. In both cases it is located in the upper left corner. The same goes for the rear camera package that sits, along with the flash, in the upper left corner of the rear housing. Of course, do not be fooled, if you look closely you will see that they do not have the same sensors.
The two mobiles also share compatibility with MicroSD cards, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and GPS governed by the same operating system, with Realme UI 2.0 running on Android 11. But perhaps the greatest similarity between the realme 8 and the realme 8 5G is that both they mount a battery of the same capacity, reaching 5,000 mAh. Despite the autonomy of one mobile and another, given their changes in processor and screen, they are very different.
All the differences between Realme mobiles
Seeing the few similarities between the realme 8 and the realme 8 5G , you can imagine that the differences will be many. There are some fundamentals, such as the screen and its technology, connectivity – determined by the processor – and the cameras, which change radically.
But if we look at each of the phones, we find many specifications that vary between each of them.
Completely different screens
The realme 8 has a smaller screen, but better quality. It mounts a 6.4-inch SuperAMOLED panel with FullHD + resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate where a maximum brightness of 1000 nits should also be highlighted. On the other hand, the 5G model has more screen, but of poorer quality, as it sports IPS technology. In return we have a size of 6.52 inches with the same Full HD + resolution and a higher refresh rate that allows browsing and playing with greater fluidity thanks to its 90 Hz. Unfortunately, the brightness of this panel is almost half, 600 nits.
Processor and connectivity
We know that one model is 4G and another is compatible with dual-band 5G networks, that is, both SA and NSA. This is due to the change in the processor that we find in each of the realme phones .
In the two Mediatek phones it is responsible for ensuring the power of the set but the difference is that in the realme 8 we run into a Mediatek Helio G95, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. In the 5G model we have the famous Dimensity 700 mid-range chipset that offers similar performance but, more importantly, a 5G modem. In this case the RAM is 4 or 6 GB.
Another difference that we can locate between the two phones is in the storage because we can only buy the first one with 64 GB while the 5G is also sold with 128 GB. In addition, in both cases we can use a MicroSD card to expand this serial ROM memory
4 and 3 sensor cameras
Moving on to the photographic section, we also find countless changes.
For example, the front camera that hides under the same hole drilled in the screen is 16 MP in the 4G model, with f / 2.45 aperture, while in the 5G mobile it is half resolution, with f / aperture. 2.0.
But the big difference is behind, where the realme 8 mounts four lenses with a 64 MP main sensor and f / 1.79 aperture, an 8 MP wide-angle lens and f / 2.25 focal aperture, a 2 MP macro sensor and f aperture. /2.4 and a last 2 MP monochrome sensor and f / 2.4 focal aperture. The realme 8 5G loses a sensor and only mounts 3 cameras , the main one being 48 MP with f / 1.8, the second a 2 MP macro lens with f / 2.4 and the third a monochrome camera of the same resolution and aperture.

Other differences
There are other secondary differences between the two phones that can also influence when deciding on one model or another, regardless of those already mentioned.
- Fast charging : The 4G model charges its 5,000 mAh cell more quickly thanks to its 30W technology, compared to the 18W of the 5G model
- Colors : While the realme 8 is sold in black and silver, the version compatible with 5G networks hits stores in gray and gold.
- Fingerprint reader : The realme 8 takes advantage of mounting a screen with AMOLED technology to place the fingerprint sensor under the screen while the realme 8 5G is forced to move it to the side of the device.
- Dimensions : The realme 8 5G , since it has a smaller panel, is smaller and lighter in weight, with a dimensions of 160.6 x 73.9 x 7.99 millimeters and a weight of 177 grams. For its part, the 5G has 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.5 millimeters and 185 grams of weight.
The choice does not depend only on connectivity
Without looking at the price, here is a key feature to choose between one mobile or another, which is 5G connectivity. If for you it is essential there is no discussion, you must buy that model because the other is not compatible with the new networks. However, if where you use the smartphone there is no 5G coverage or, even if there is, you still do not need a smartphone compatible with the new communications standard, it seems quite clear that the realme 8 standard offers a better set of specifications.
It has a better screen because, despite having a smaller size and refresh rate, it boasts AMOLED technology and a higher brightness that, in addition, will have a positive effect on the battery life, which, if that were not enough, has a higher speed of load. This, coupled with a camera of higher quality and versatility and a processor of similar performance, tips the balance against the 5G model.
Apart from all this, you have to take into account the price of each one. The 5G model can be purchased for 199 or 249 euros depending on the chosen model, if it is 4 + 64 GB or 6 + 128 GB. In the case of the realme 8 LTE we can only buy it with 4 + 64 GB for 199 euros .
