Be careful if you use this version of Windows 10, or you will have problems

Since the arrival of Windows 10 , back in 2015, we have seen how several versions (or major updates) of the operating system have arrived, which, little by little, have been adding new features, and correcting errors, in the operating system. However, these versions did not last forever and, after 18 months, they were out of support, forcing users to update. Or else we could have problems. Now, a new version of this operating system comes to an end: 20H2. Do you still use it?

Be careful if you use this version of Windows 10

Windows 10 20H2 reached users in late 2020 as a minor update to 2004, the update that arrived in the spring of the same year. This version of the operating system, in addition to correcting a large number of errors, and including all the patches published to date, stood out for the following:

  • Migrate many more control panel functions to the settings menu.
  • Allow Android apps to run on PC through the Your Phone app.
  • New Start menu and personalized Taskbar.
  • New web browser, Edge, for everyone.
  • Alt + Tab improvements.
  • Easy to switch to tablet mode.
  • Possibility to change the screen refresh rate.
  • New revamped System Information page in Windows 10.

But, following Microsoft‘s development plan, on May 9, 2022 , Windows 10 20H2 will reach end of support. Thereafter, this version of Windows will no longer receive updates and will not be supported by Microsoft. This implies that possible bugs and problems in the operating system (even security problems) will not be corrected, and that users may be in danger.

Check the version of Windows 10 installed

If we want to avoid problems, we need to make sure that we are using a supported version of Windows 10. To do this, we press the Windows + R keyboard shortcut, and we will execute the “winver” command. There we can see the version of the installed system.

Winver

If in the “version” section we see 20H2, or any previous version, we will be in trouble. Otherwise, if 21H1 or 21H2 appears, then our Windows is up to date and we will continue to receive updates for the time being.

In case our PC is still running with version 20H2 of Windows, then we will have two options. The first of them will be to install one of the new versions of 2021 this operating system, either 21H1 or 21H2. These updates should appear within Windows Update, so simply by checking for new updates we should be able to update. And, if we prefer, we can also download the media creation tool from the Windows web and use this tool to update our computer.

On the other hand, the second option we have is to upgrade to Windows 11 . Microsoft’s new operating system is already among us, and it comes full of changes, improvements, and new features of all kinds, especially in the aesthetic section and in terms of performance. The first version of this operating system still has at least 18 months of support ahead of it, making it an excellent option for those who want to upgrade and forget about the rest.
