The major brands have just announced their full line of B550 motherboards for AMD‘s third-generation Ryzen and we already have full info on the ASUS, GIGABYTE and ASRock models.
The B550 boards come with a new chipset that supports 20 PCIe 4.0 lines along with third-generation AMD Ryzen processors, finally arriving after almost a year since the X570 chipsets came onto the market. All of them are compatible with the third generation Ryzen and will be compatible with the future Ryzen 4000.
ASUS presents 11 new models
The premium range is comprised of ASUS ROG Strix motherboards that come with super-well-cooled high-efficiency VRMs, come with an upgraded integrated sound card, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and 2.5Gbps Intel Ethernet.
ROG Strix B550-E Gaming
The top-of-the-range motherboard comes with a 14 + 2-phase VRM power to support the processors with more AMD cores at ease. PCIe x16 SafeSlot have support for 2 NVIDIA graphics SLIs or triple AMD CrossFireX configuration. 6 fan connectors, two M.2 slots up to 110mm with passive heatsink, 2.5Gbps Intel Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Three USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors (one Type C and 2 Type A) along with USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports. It also has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector for the front panel. The audio chip is a SupremeFX S1220A that has a USB C port for Type C sound devices.
ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (Wi-Fi)
It has a 12 + 2 phase VRM with 8 + 4 pin ProCool auxiliary power outlets. As a network card it has an Intel I255-V, Wi-Fi Intel AX200 and SupremeFX S1220A sound without the type C connector. Compared to the B550-E it does not have the front USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C port and does not support SLI.
ROG Strix B550-I Gaming
It is a mini ITX model with a single PCIe 4.0 x16 and its VRM is 8 + 2 phases of power with active cooling with an 8-pin ProCool II socket. Supports memory frequencies up to 5,100 MHz. It has USB 3.2 Gen. 2 type C and A ports with support for a front USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector, an Intel I225-V 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connector and an Intel AX200 adapter. with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
The TUF gaming mid-range has high-end features at an affordable price.
ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus
It has an 8 + 2 phase VRM DrMOS with heatsink to be able to cool it properly, in addition the chipset and the M.2 slots also have cooling. The 2 x PCIe x16 ports are reinforced with SafeSlot to support heavy graphics cards and support for CrossFireX. It comes with 2.5 Gbps Ethernet and an M.2 E-key slot to be able to install a Wi-Fi 6 card and Bluetooth 5.1. The integrated sound card is a Realtek S1200A that supports virtual 3D surround sound via DTS Custom.
ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (Wi-Fi)
It is very similar to the TUF Gaming B550-Plus but it comes in micro ATX format keeping 2 PCIe x16 and 2 M.2 although one of them supports a maximum of 80 mm in length. The Wi-Fi module is optional and incorporates 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity, Realtek S1200A audio with DTS Custom support and comes with a lower price than the ATX model. The VRM is 8 + 2 phase DrMOS and they come with passive cooling.
ASUS entry range is Prime motherboards that come with less premium features but at the lowest prices
ASUS Prime B550M-A (Wi-Fi)
It is the top of the range model of the ASUS Prime, ideal for mid-range gaming equipment, it has 2 PCIe x16 with support for CrossFireX and 2 M.2 of 110 mm and 4 SATA. It supports memories up to 4400 MHz. In the connectivity section Wi-Fi is AX with Bluetooth 5.1 and the LAN is a Realtek RTL8111H it has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2, 6 USB 3.2 Gen 1 and 4 USB 2.0.
ASUS Prime B550M-A
It is a variant of the B550 Plus in micro-ATX format and you can choose between the version with Ethernet or Wi-Fi. It supports memories up to 4400 MHz, it has 4 SATA and 2 M.2. In the connectivity section, the network card is a Realtek RTL8111H, it has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2, 6 USB 3.2 Gen 1 and 4 USB 2.0.
ASUS Prime B550M-K
It comes with a single PCIe x16 slot and an M.2 of up to 110 mm and in the connectivity section it comes with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 and 4 USB 2.0. It supports memories up to 4400 MHz and the network card is a Realtek RTL8111H.
GIGABYTE presents 6 new models
The high and mid-range motherboards are the AORUS and the B550M DS3H is the cheapest motherboard with the B550 chipset.
B550 AORUS MASTER
The top of the range is the B550 AORUS MASTER which comes with 16 phases of 70A digital VRM each with direct contact heatsinks, support for three M.2, Intel Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, Realtek ALC 1220 audio card- VB and 2.5 Gbps Realtek LAN connectivity and it also has USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C ports and comes with support for memory up to 5000 MHz.
B550 AORUS PRO
The B550 AORUS PRO comes with 16 phases of 70A digital VRM each with direct contact heatsinks, support for three M.2s, Intel Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, Realtek ALC 1220-VB audio card and Realtek LAN connectivity from 2.5 Gbps and it also has USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C ports and comes with support for memory of up to 5000 MHz.
B550 AORUS PRO AC
The B550 AORUS PRO AC comes in a 12 + 2-phase DrMOS VRM design with Wi-Fi AC 3168 and 2.5 GbE LAN with Realtek ALC1220-VB audio card and comes with support for memory up to 5000 MHz. It has a PCIe x16 4.0 and a PCIe x16 3.0. In the storage section we find a slot for M.2 PCIe 4.0, an M.2 PCIe 3.0. 2 and 6 SATA.
B550I AOURUS PRO AX
The top of the range for ITX motherboard lovers is the B550I AOURUS PRO AX and it comes with 8 phases of 90A VRM and a single PCIe x16 port. Wi-Fi AX with Bluetooth 5.1 and Realtek ALC1220-VB audio card. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C and support for 2 M.2 SSDs with memory support up to 4866 MHz.
B550 AORUS ELITE
The B550 AORUS ELITE motherboard comes with a 12 + 2 phase VRM of 50A DrMOS power, 2.5 GbE LAN, ALC1200 integrated sound card and supports memories up to 4000 MHz. It has a PCIe x16 4.0 and a PCIe x16 3.0. In the storage section we find a slot for M.2 PCIe 4.0, an M.2 PCIe 3.0. 2 and 4 SATA.
