AMD RX 7000 Series graphics would support DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR20

It has just been leaked that AMD RX 7000 graphics cards with RDNA3 architecture will support the DisplayPort standard . We know this thanks to data miners who have explored the latest AMD drivers. RDNA3 architecture graphics cards are currently in the final phase of hardware and software development.

The new graphics cards from AMD, which could hit the market after the summer, could make a big leap in performance. These new RX 7000 Series graphics cards should improve especially in the support of ray tracing technology. Little else is known at the hardware and power level of these new graphics cards.

AMD RX 7000 Series graphics would support DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR20

AMD RX 7000 Series will have support for DisplayPort 2.0

Who has discovered this information is Kepler, who has researched the latest AMD drivers. Within the latest patch is the DisplayPort 2.0 Ultra-High-Bit-Rate (UHBR) certification . The UHB10, UHBR13.5 and UHBR20 standards define the maximum cable connectivity, or what is the same, the speed compatible with the originating and receiving devices.

Note that VESA was initially reluctant to introduce UHBR standards within the DisplayPort 2.0 specifications. Indicate that VESA is the one who manages this video and data connectivity standard.

The patch “DML Changes for DCN32/321” (DCN stands for Display Core Next) is what gives us this new information. Inside it indicates that DisplayPort UHBR20 is enabled. This offers us support for up to 80 Gbps of bandwidth, which is much more than the 32 Gbps offered by HDMI 2.1 and the 48 Gbps of DisplayPort 1.4a.

According to the data offered, this new standard allows to enable video with 16K resolution with Display Stream Compression, 10K resolution without compression or two screens with 8K HDR resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Although this information is very interesting, note that at the moment there are no monitors with support for DisplayPort 2.0 and they are not expected either. Monitors under this standard have been delayed several times.

Remember that VESA in January 2021 indicated that the first monitors with DisplayPort 2.0 would arrive at the end of 2021. We are already in mid-2022 and, at the moment, there is no data in this regard. Most likely, they are under development, possibly at an advanced stage, and the first models with the new AMD graphics may arrive.
