MIUI 11 is an operating system that, whether based on Android 9 or Android 10, comes loaded with new features for Xiaomi users. However, not everything is perfect and, as with other customization layers from other manufacturers, you may encounter different problems on your Xiaomi mobile after installing the update.
In the following lines we organize the main MIUI 11 errors reported by whispers around the globe to detect the most common problems you may face. Of course, in addition to getting ahead of them, we also give you the solution to the failure.
Display problems
PiP mode errors
Users who switch to Picture-in-Picture mode (on YouTube, VLC, or other video applications) and then try to open recent applications may encounter black screens or locks. This is a recognized MIUI 11 bug that has not yet been fixed by patch.
Solution : You can try to clear the cache of the affected app and make sure that all necessary permissions are granted. If the problem persists and you don’t mind restoring the phone to its original state, you can do it from Settings> System> Backup and reset> Restore the phone.
No notifications on lock screen
By default MIUI 11 is configured to prevent contestant one from displaying the lock screen. It is not a system error, but a configuration error.
Solution: Enable notifications to be seen with the blocked mobile phone from Settings> Applications> Permissions> Other permissions> Show on the lock screen in each of the affected apps. In the same way, you must allow these notifications from Settings> Lock screen> Activate lock screen for notifications.
Battery problems
Abnormal battery discharge
Probably the most reported error in MIUI 11 , regardless of what version of Android we are talking about (Android 9 or Android 10). The problem is especially blatant when the device is idle (overnight), we should suggest something.
Solution : Turn off unused apps so they don’t start automatically from Settings> Apps> Manage apps and individually disable Auto-start in apps.
If the problem persists, perform a Hard Reset from Settings> System> Backup and reset> Restore phone
Battery calibration
For some users it seems that the battery percentage is changing irregularly. Rather than gradually depleting, users claim that the battery suddenly drops (for example, 70% to 50% in a matter of minutes). This points to a bad battery calibration.
The steps to recalcitrate the battery are as follows:
- Unload the phone completely until it turns off.
- Turn it back on and wait until it turns off.
- Connect it to the load and, without turning it on, wait for it to reach 100%.
- Unplug it.
- Turn on the mobile and if the battery percentage is not 100%, plug the charger back in until the battery is shown to be full.
- Unplug the phone and restart it. If the battery is not yet 100%, connect the charger and charge it once more until the battery is 100% full.
- Repeat this cycle until the battery is 100% charged when you turn on the phone and allow it to discharge until the phone turns itself off.
- Fully charge the battery once more without turning on the phone.
Performance issues
Blocked apps
Certain third-party or system apps continue to crash on MIUI 11 , leading to the mobile displaying a lock warning or black screen.
Solution : You can try reinstalling apps from scratch, but generally a factory reset will work best. You can do it from Settings> System> Backup and reset> Restore phone
Slow animations
Some MIUI updates hinder smartphone performance when opening apps.
Solution : Update your mobile to the latest version or enable developer options and increase animation speed when opening and closing apps to improve the performance of your Xiaomi mobile .
Game Turbo issues
MIUI 11 releases Game turbo but, for some users, it seems that it does not work as well as could be expected and even causes some kind of problem with third party apps.
Solution : disable performance optimization and add affected applications to the memory exceptions list as follows:
- Open the Settings panel and access Special Features.
- Open Game Turbo mode.
- Tap on the shield icon to open Settings like this.
- Locate and disable performance optimization.
- In the Memory Exceptions menu add all the applications that you don’t want to limit while you play.
Camera problems
Camera lock
Some users complain that the camera is blocked, and the phone cannot be opened or restarted or the data on it deleted.
Solution : Restore the factory settings of the mobile from Settings> System> Backup and reset> Restore the phone
The camera turns on by itself
Above all Xiaomi Mi 9 users have suffered this MIUI 11 problem that opens the camera app without mentioning it.
Solution : Force stop the camera from Settings> Applications> Force stop> Uninstall updates> Clear data and cache> Restart the phone
Connectivity issues
IA button
Some MIUI updates make activating the wizard just open it, but don’t trigger the microphone.
Solution : It is a recognized and fixed bug in the latest versions of MIUI so you only have to worry about updating the mobile.
Network problems
Some users complain that wireless speeds have been reduced significantly, others that they cannot use mobile data, and even VoLTE calls even seem to fail.
Solution : Activate Airplane mode and deactivate it after one minute. If this does not work you can reset the mobile APN or reset the Network settings. The last option, as always,
reset the device to factory settings.
GPS failures
The big achilles heel of Xiaomi mobiles is still one of the main problems of MIUI 11. The operating system apparently has a problem in third-party applications with GPS readings that are not at all accurate at all, especially in the Google Maps case.
Solution : Enable assisted GPS and grant location permissions to the affected applications from the settings of each of the applications. Also, you can test the hardware by typing the code * # * # 6484 # * # * from the phone app to check if there is any problem with the component.
Problems with Apps
Google play
Google Play shows different updates ready to be applied on the phone, but when you select them, nothing happens. However, the app does not stop trying to install it and never does.
Solution: Force stop the app from Settings> Applications> Force stop> Uninstall updates> Clear data and cache> Restart the phone
Alarm
With Do Not Disturb mode activated, it is impossible to turn off the mobile alarm without first unlocking the device.
Solution : Restore the factory settings of the mobile from Settings> System> Backup and reset> Restore the phone.
If the problem continues to occur, we recommend using third-party clock apps.
Netflix
Some users stated that they cannot download and install Netflix through the Play Store for some reason. If you are using a Chinese ROM, Netflix will not be available for download but you can install this APK manually.
If you can not see Netflix in FullHD it is because only if your mobile has Widevine L1 you can see content in 1080p. MIUI 11 Global ROM officially supports Widevine L3, i.e. HD streaming.
