Until the so-called eSIM or virtual SIM cards are imposed in a massive way, we have no other choice but to exchange pieces of plastic with a chip every time we change operators. So much SIM change causes detection errors and other related failures to occasionally arise . Huawei mobiles can also experience these and other failures, as we will see below.
In many cases, problems with the SIM card can lead to real headaches, which can be multiplied by two if you have a DualSIM terminal. Let’s take a look at the most common problems, because luckily, their solution may be at hand.
The SIM card has not been identified
It is one of the most classic mistakes and can depend on many factors. In this case, the icon will be displayed in the status bar, or a single SIM card icon may also be displayed after two cards have been inserted. In any case, the card is not recognized by the mobile, which makes it impossible for us to receive a network signal.
Hot swap
Some Huawei terminals do not support hot swapping of SIM cards . This means that we will have to restart the device so that the SIM card or cards are detected and identified. We can easily verify it, since the PIN will not be requested.
Check placement
It is another of the mandatory methods of verification. We must check that the SIM fits correctly in the card tray and try again. In many cases, it may not fit well if it is not a standard SIM card or if it has been clipped.
Dirty SIM card
It is another reason why it cannot be detected by our mobile. To get rid of doubts we must rub with a dry cloth on the chip of the SIM card , reinsert and check if it is detected.
Try another SIM
It is possibly the best method to download other problems. If we have the possibility, we should try to introduce another SIM card that works on our mobile. If it works normally, our SIM may be damaged and we need to contact our operator to make a replacement for a new one.
The SIM card has been detected, but there is no signal
In this case, the icon that appears in the status bar shows the network stripes with an “x” that refers to the lack of signal. This means that the SIM card has been detected and identified.
Through the mobile network
On some models, the SIM card that is not configured as the default Mobile Data SIM can only access 2G / 3G networks. This means that if there is no 2G or 3G network available in our location, then there will be no signal and it will be the cause of the problem. In this case we will have to go Settings / Wireless and networks / SIM card settings and activate “Two SIM 4G”
Activated Intinrancy
If international roaming has been activated, the phone may have trouble connecting to the correct network operator . In this case we will have to swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. Then we hold down the “Mobile data” option to access the Mobile Networks settings screen, click on “Operator” and remove the “Auto” option. Now, the mobile will then search for available operator networks and we can select the appropriate one.
If it happens with two SIMs
If this happens when we insert two SIM cards , we will have to insert only one of them into the phone to see if there is a signal. Then, we will insert the two cards in the SIM trays, and we will have to alternate the default Mobile Data SIM with the other SIM, to check if there is a signal.
Reset Network Settings
It is a good option when nothing works. In this case, our Huawei mobile allows the network settings to be returned to the non-valid values, which makes solving many of the problems related to the SIM card and the non-signal. For that we go to “Settings” and do a search “Reset network settings” Then we reset the network settings of our mobile.
Problems with DualSIM
In this case, the SIM has been correctly detected and we have a signal, but several operating errors arise that limit the functions that we can carry out a priori.
Third-party contacts application
The most frequent cause is being using a third-party app that does not support DualSIM cards . The solution is to uninstall this application and use the pre-installed Contacts application. For this we will have to go to Settings> Applications> Settings> Default applications and mark Contacts.
Unable to divert calls
When we cannot divert calls between two SIM cards, it may be because SIM cards do not support this mode, or because the service has not been activated. In this case we will have to contact our operator for Call Forwarding. Virtual carrier SIM cards may also not support Call Forwarding. It is something that we will have to consult in the case of being under the service of any of these companies.
Ringtones only for a card
When the mobile only plays tones from a SIM card , we can fix it by going to Settings / Wireless and networks / SIM card settings. Once inside we check if the “Enable call forwarding between SIMs” function is enabled. If so, we will have to disable it.
