AI Shutter: the Great Improvement for the Camera of Your Xiaomi Mobile with MIUI 12

Xiaomi is currently implementing the latest version of MIUI for some of its phones. It is true that despite MIUI 12 having some problems, most users have welcomed with open arms the new version of the operating system of the firm based on Android 1o that has already received a number of significant improvements.

AI Shutter

There is a new app drawer and new features in privacy controls, but it turns out that the MIUI team does not agree with this. As the XDA guys have discovered, now the developers of the Xiaomi software have set their sights on GCam , the best camera application for Android, and are working on a new feature that could reach Xiaomi phones through an update. MIUI 12 in the near future: AI Shutter.

What is AI Shutter?

Again the group of developers in charge of ruining the secrets of almost all the manufacturers via XDA have recently discovered this new camera function in a disassembly of the APK of the MIUI Camera application within a beta version of the Chinese MIUI 12 ROM. It looks like AI Shutter will work similar to how Top Shot works in the GCam present in the Google Pixel: a series of photos is captured in a burst and then machine learning technology is used to select the best shot from the group.

The idea behind this method of taking photos is to avoid results where subjects blink, look away, or make strange faces with their faces. Google’s camera feature analyzes captured images and selects the best of all, though users can also take a look at captured images and choose the one that looks best. Unfortunately this is only a conjecture because for the moment AI Shutter is still a piece in the MIUI 12 code of which we still have no demonstration.

AI Shutter

Curiously, the Chinese firm has already announced a series of new features for its latest version of the operating system, but AI Shutter has not been seen in any of the beta versions of the software. Since it has appeared in the Chinese version, it is to be imagined that we will soon see it in the mobiles sold in the far east so that it can later be applied to global ROMs.

In this way, Xiaomi is clearly committed to improving the photographic component of its mobiles, something that is already being achieved at the hardware level according to DxOMark but that, in the field of the MIUI app, still has much to improve.
