These types of calls are made whenever our mobile phone can be connected to a Wi-Fi network. So we can call any number from ours, even if we are in an area without network coverage . The good thing is that the person who will receive our call does not necessarily have to be connected to another Wi-Fi network.
The good news is that more and more brands and operators allow this technology , so it is very easy to find this option on our device, even if it is even mid-range or entry-level in some cases. Another of its great advantages is that these types of calls are charged in the same way as a traditional call, so roaming or special rate numbers are subject to the rate of our contract, even in the case of a Wi-Fi call.
How to activate Wi-Fi calls at each brand
The methods to activate these types of calls are very similar on Android phones and somewhat different at Apple due to an opposite operating system.
On iPhone
On iPhone we can activate them from Settings / Phone / Wi-Fi calls. In this case, it is important to note that when the mobile network is available , the iPhone uses it to make emergency calls. But having activated “Wi-Fi calls” will be made using this method when the mobile service is not available.
At Samsung
In the case of Samsung mobiles, we will have to go to Settings and enter the “Connectivity” options to activate the Wi-Fi calling function . In older terminals or those that have not been updated, the route may be different and can be found in Settings / Applications / Telephone and inside we will see the option “Calls with WiFi” on your telephone. We just have to touch the box and confirm by tapping “Ok”
On Xiaomi
Compatible Chinese company mobiles can easily access this function. In this case, the method involves entering a code on the numeric keypad of the telephone dialer, in order to activate the function. For this we enter the phone app and write * # * # 869434 # * # * From that moment calls via Wi-Fi will be active when our coverage fails and we are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
At Huawei
In Huawei mobiles, these types of calls are not activated by default, but we can activate them from the Phone application menu and tapping on “Settings”. Once inside we will see the option to activate “Calls via Wi-Fi”. As always, Wi-Fi calls will take place when the network signal is unstable
At Sony
The Japanese from Sony can also activate this option on their mobiles, and it is found in the Settings menu by going to the connectivity section and clicking on “Wi-Fi” once inside we can access the Wi-Fi settings and see the box that activates the function. Similarly, we can choose what type of call is our priority.
At LG
Within the mobiles of the Korean company LG, we can activate the function if we enter Settings and then click on “Networks and Internet”. Once inside we will have to touch on the advanced calling functions and touch on “Activate Wi-Fi calls”. Once activated, we will also have calls available via Wi-Fi when the mobile network is not available.
In Realme
In compatible realme phones like the X2 Pro, the route changes with respect to other manufacturers. In this case we will have to go to Settings and select “SIM and Mobile Data”. Then we tap on the SIM card that we have active and select the option “Wi-Fi calls” and activate it. We can also select the preferred option , so Wi-Fi calls can have priority.
On OPPO phones
If we have an OPPO mobile in our hands and it is compatible with technology, we must go to Settings / Mobile network and Dual SIM and tap on the SIM card in which we want to enable Wi-Fi calling. Once inside we touch on the switch and they will be enabled. Right below we will have the option to choose if we prefer to make a call using this method or through the traditional mobile network . Like on other occasions, if our mobile is not compatible, the option simply will not appear.
On OnePlus
If we have a OnePlus with Android 10 we can also enable this option. However, it is a hidden function that we will have to activate through a trick, which requires following some steps. The first thing we will have to do is download the OnePlusLogKit from this link. Once installed and downloaded, we go to the telephone dialer and type * # 800 # and press OK when the pop-up message appears. Now we touch on “OnePlus Logkit” and we must mark the calls via Wi-Fi at the bottom to complete the activation.
At Motorola
For Lenovo brand mobiles we will have to go to Settings / Networks and Internet and activate Wi-Fi calls inside . In addition, within its menu we can also choose the priority between calls with this connection or the network connection.
