Start with Chrome‘s bookmark manager before installing another extension. Folders, search and an HTML backup are enough for many collections. An extra service is useful when you need tags, saved resources across browsers or project workspaces.

Organize the bookmarks you already have
- Open Chrome’s menu, then Bookmarks and lists → Bookmark manager.
- Create a few clear folders, such as Work, Reading and Personal.
- Move related links into them and rename vague titles.
- Check links before deleting duplicates or old entries.
- Export an HTML backup before a large cleanup or migration.
Google’s bookmark guide explains folders and search. You can type @bookmarks in the address bar, press Tab or Space and search your saved links. Chrome’s native bookmarks do not become a tag-and-notes system just by adding a hashtag to a name.
Which option fits your needs?
| Option | Useful for | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome bookmark manager | Folders, searching and ordinary saved links. | Account settings if you want access across devices. |
| Raindrop.io | Collections, tags and a separate cross-browser library. | Which features need Pro and how exports work. |
| Workona | Organizing active browser work into project spaces. | Current plan limits and whether you need workspace features. |
Raindrop.io: collections and tags
Raindrop.io’s official quickstart describes saving pages through its extension and arranging them in collections with tags. This can help when one link belongs to several topics or you use different browsers.
Do not assume every cleanup tool is free. Its Pro feature list includes the broken-link checker and duplicate finder. Check the live plan before subscribing, and try an export with a small collection before moving everything.
Workona: keep project resources together
Workona focuses on browser workspaces and project resources. It is worth considering when the problem is a mixture of open tabs and saved work, rather than a simple folder of favourites. It adds another account and service to manage; use its official installation links and review the current plan.
Back up and review extension access
Google documents exporting bookmarks as HTML. Keep the file privately: bookmark names and URLs can reveal personal interests or work resources. An extension may store its own collection separately from Chrome, so check both exports.
Pocket is no longer a current recommendation. Mozilla announced that Pocket services would close on July 8, 2025. Avoid old download lists that still present it as an active option. If your browser layout is also cluttered, see our guide to accidental fullscreen and shortcut changes.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an extension to organize Chrome bookmarks?
No. Try the built-in folders, search and backup tools first.
Does Chrome have native bookmark tags?
Its ordinary bookmark tools use titles, URLs and folders. Use a suitable separate service if you need tags.
Is Raindrop.io’s duplicate finder free?
Its documentation lists duplicate detection as a premium feature. Check the current plan.
Can I still start using Pocket?
It should not be recommended as an active bookmark service after its announced July 2025 closure.
