Advance Wars-style play centers on turn-based unit movement, territory and resource decisions. For a similar experience, compare how a game handles unit production, commanders, map objectives and multiplayer rather than relying on the “strategy” label alone.
Start with Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
The Switch remake is already released: Nintendo‘s launch announcement is dated 21 April 2023. The old article’s prediction about an upcoming launch is obsolete.
Re-Boot Camp combines the two campaigns and features land, air and naval units. It is the closest choice if you want the original mechanics with a new presentation rather than a reinterpretation.
Wargroove and Wargroove 2
Wargroove uses a fantasy setting, commanders and turn-based battles. Wargroove 2 adds new campaign and tactical options; Nintendo’s Switch listing documents local and online play. The two-game bundle is another way to compare editions.
Choose it when you like map tactics but want a different setting and commander behavior. Check mode-specific player limits and online membership requirements.
Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble
Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble offers another military turn-based strategy approach on Switch. Compare its unit rules, scouting and battle objectives with Advance Wars rather than assuming it is mechanically identical.
Tactical RPGs are a different branch
Fire Emblem: Three Houses emphasizes named characters, progression and an extended story. It can suit someone who enjoys turn-based decisions, but its structure differs from producing interchangeable units and capturing factories. Mario + Rabbids games likewise use their own tactical battle rules; our Mario catalog identifies the Switch choices.
Before buying
Check the specific platform, regional store, single-player content and the multiplayer mode you want. Older suggestions such as Future Wars, Epic Little War Game and Lost Frontier need their own current-store checks rather than being assumed available everywhere.
If managing a settlement appeals more than fighting over a map, compare god and world-building games.
