Start in Windows Settings if you want to review installed apps. For a text list, WinGet is another option on supported installations. No single view is guaranteed to find every portable program, browser extension or app belonging to another user.

Use Settings
In Windows 11, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Windows 10 uses Apps → Apps & features. Search and sort the list to find applications. Traditional desktop software may also appear in Control Panel’s Programs and Features.
Use WinGet for a command-line list
In an appropriate Terminal or command-prompt session with WinGet available, enter:
winget list
Microsoft‘s list-command documentation explains that it can show applications installed through WinGet and applications installed by other means. It is an inventory command, not an instruction to install or uninstall every listed item.
To filter the output, use the search options in WinGet’s guide to find the app you need. If WinGet is missing, use Settings or your organization’s approved inventory tool rather than changing system permissions to force an old tutorial.
Understand what is missing
| Software type | Where else to check |
|---|---|
| Portable executable | The folder where it was saved; it may not register an installation. |
| Browser extension/web app | The browser’s extension/app management. |
| Another Windows user’s app | That account or an authorized administrator’s inventory. |
| Game in a launcher | The launcher’s library and installed-game view. |
Do not change execution policy just to make a list
The old instruction to set PowerShell to Unrestricted is unnecessary for winget list and ordinary Settings checks. Do not lower script restrictions or run an unknown “inventory” script with administrator rights just to review software.
Before uninstalling
Identify the publisher and purpose, back up important settings and use the supported uninstall process. An unfamiliar name or old install date doesn’t mean you no longer need an app. For a browser page installed as an app, see browser web-app management.
