If an app still appears in the suggestions row when you swipe down on your iPhone’s Home Screen, open Settings > Siri > Suggestions and check the options for that app. If you see the app only after typing a search, check its switches under Settings > Search.

Apple added Excluded Apps in iOS 27.2 to control which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access. In the discussion under MacRumors’ November 5 guide, one reader reported that an excluded app still appeared in the suggested-app row. It disappeared in their test after they turned off that app’s separate Suggestions settings. See Apple’s iOS 27.2 notes and the reader’s test in the MacRumors forum.

Turn off Siri Suggestions for one app

  1. Open Settings > Siri > Suggestions and select the app.
  2. Turn off the switches for the suggestions you want to remove. The options depend on the app. For example, Show in App controls suggestions displayed inside that app.
  3. Swipe down on the Home Screen and check the suggestions row before typing. If the shortcut still appears, open Settings > Search, select the app, and look for Suggest App.

On earlier iOS versions, look for Siri & Search or Apple Intelligence & Siri in Settings and select the app there.

Choose where Siri makes suggestions

In Settings > Siri > Suggestions, you can change where the phone offers suggestions. Use the switch for the place where you see them. Apple lists the available controls in its iPhone guide to Siri settings.

  • Allow Notifications controls suggestion notifications.
  • Show in App Library controls suggested apps in App Library.
  • Show When Sharing controls suggested contacts when you share something.
  • Show Listening Suggestions controls suggestions for things you might want to listen to.

Change what Spotlight can find

Open Settings > Search and pick an app. If both switches are available, use Show App in Search for the app’s name or icon in results and Show Content in Search for results from inside the app. See Apple’s Spotlight settings guide.

To see what changed, swipe down and check the suggested-app row before you type. Then search for the app by name and for a phrase you know appears inside it. Change one setting at a time and repeat those checks.

Add an app to Excluded Apps in iOS 27.2

  1. Open Settings > Siri > Excluded Apps.
  2. Tap Add Apps and select the apps you want to exclude.
  3. Tap the blue checkmark to save your selection.

Check your version under Settings > General > About if the menu is missing. For help checking Siri AI and Apple Intelligence compatibility, see our guide to finding Apple Intelligence settings.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps are worth excluding?

Start with an app whose information you want Siri and Search to leave out. If your goal is simply to remove a shortcut from the suggested-app row, start with that app’s Suggestions settings.

Why can’t I find Show Content in Search?

Apple lists it under Settings > Search when you select an app. One reader reported that it was missing on the iOS 27.2 release candidate. If you don’t see the switch for the app you’re checking, try Excluded Apps where available and repeat your search for a phrase from inside the app. See the release-candidate discussion.

Can I keep an app searchable by name and hide results from inside it?

If both switches are available for that app, leave Show App in Search on and turn Show Content in Search off. Search by name and then by a phrase from inside the app to check the two results.

How do I remove an app from Excluded Apps?

Open Settings > Siri > Excluded Apps and tap Edit. Tap the red minus next to the entry, choose Delete to remove it from the list, then tap the blue checkmark.

How do I turn off suggested search terms in Safari?

Go to Settings > Apps > Safari and turn off Search Engine Suggestions to stop suggested search terms. You can review Safari’s other search options in our guide to searching with Safari. See Apple’s Safari search instructions.
