How to Record Calls on iPhone: Built-In Recording and Apps

Last updated:

Best Applications to Record Calls on an iPhone

Some iPhones can record calls using Apple‘s built-in feature, but availability depends on country or region, software and language. A third-party app is not automatically necessary. First check Apple’s current call-recording guide for your location.

Use the built-in option where available

During a supported call with one other person, open the call controls, choose More, then Call Recording. Participants hear an announcement. Stop recording when finished; the recording is stored in the Call Recordings folder in Notes.

Recording, transcription and AI summaries have different requirements. A recording option does not guarantee that a transcript is available in your language or that your phone supports Apple Intelligence summaries. If the recording control is absent, check regional availability and your installed iOS version before paying for an app.

What third-party apps can and cannot do

Many services use a three-way call: your carrier merges the other person with the provider’s recording number. Check that your carrier supports conference calling, that the access number is reachable and that charges are clear. An app designed for its own internet calls may not record ordinary cellular calls.

  • Confirm incoming and outgoing call support separately.
  • Check trial length, recording minutes, export formats and subscription renewal.
  • Find out whether recordings are stored locally or uploaded, and how deletion works.
  • Test a short, agreed recording before relying on it for an important conversation.

Keep and share recordings carefully

Tell participants you want to record and follow the rules that apply to the people and location involved. Apple’s announcement does not settle every consent or workplace requirement. Avoid claims that recording is always lawful in a particular country.

Export only what you need and use restricted sharing. Our backup options guide explains why an accessible restore copy matters; if you need language help, see translation apps for iPhone.
