6 iPhone Troubleshooting Tips That Will Make Your Life Easier

The United States has a population of roughly 318 million, 101 million are iPhone users. That’s almost one-third of the population. Since the first iPhone prototype in 1983, Apple Inc. has consistently produced devices that have rocked the smartphone world.

Even though their products are always designed to be sleek, fancy, and multifunctional, each new version runs into its own problems. When they do, it becomes difficult to know where or how to fix them.

If you’re an iPhone user, you’d notice how difficult it is to troubleshoot your device. This is because Apple doesn’t include a manual when you purchase their product. As a result, Apple customers scout the internet looking to find solutions to their problems on various websites.

There are many methods in fixing smartphones but some of these methods have drawbacks. Therefore, you need to be careful with the method you choose to apply with your iPhone.

Below are 6 iPhone basic troubleshooting tips that will make your life easier

1. Restart The Device

The first troubleshooting tip for most smartphones is to turn the device off and back on. Indeed, there are very few situations where a simple reboot can clear up problems quickly.

The reboot trick works because it resets the software into a stable state after an unexpected sequence of events caused something to break. However, not all reboots are the same. For iPhone devices, two types of reboots shut down in an entirely different way – following a particular order.

The first is the standard restart which will require you to first turn your device off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. If the problem persists, you try the force restart. To force restart, press and hold the correct combination of keys for your device model.

Persist withholding the buttons for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

2. Remove iCloud Activation Lock

If your iPhone is fairly used, you might encounter some challenges when trying to access it. There are different ways to rectify this. Knowing the previous owner is the best solution as they can easily sign in to iCloud and sign out.

You can also ask Apple to remove the activation lock with proof that the device was legally purchased. Tech experts and the community members at iChimp use some of these methods and more effective ones to remove the activation lock. With the lock gone, setting up your phone is easy.

3. Updating Your iPhone May Solve The Issue

You need to make sure your iOS operating system is up-to-date. If you’re running an outdated version of iOS, certain apps and features might not be compatible.

To update wirelessly, navigate to settings > general > software update and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you can’t update wirelessly on your iOS device, you can update manually using iTunes on a computer that you trust. If your computer is using Personal Hotspot on the iOS device that you’re updating, connect your computer to a different Wi-Fi before you update.

4. Recharge Device/Check Battery Usage

When the battery is fully depleted, charge it using a power adapter. If the iPhone displays a low battery image, it can take up to 20 minutes of charging before the iPhone will startup. Press the Home button to check the current charging status.

You should note that an iPhone’s battery life often isn’t great, especially if you’re a heavy user. If your device’s battery drains unusually quickly, you can try to identify the offending app. To see which application drains your battery, go to Settings > Battery. You can check the charts at the bottom to get a look at apps‘ battery usage over a certain time frame.

5. Close Apps

When apps are left open, they become unresponsive and sometimes they freeze. If a single app has stopped responding or closes when launched, double-tap on to the home button to see recently used apps and close them.

6. Reset Network Settings

Most of the time, connection problems can be rectified by resetting your network settings. Just open to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Notice: You will lose any saved Wi-Fi passwords if a reset is performed.

7. Restore iPhone

Restore your iPhone to its default settings. Note that a factory restore erases the information and settings on your iPhone and installs the latest version of iOS software.

To do this, get your device ready.

  • Check that you have the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC.
  • Before you begin, backup important files.
  • Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then turn off Find My iPhone.

Not finding a workable solution can sometimes be very frustrating. The troubleshooting tips mentioned will not only fix your problem but will also point out several other things you could do to make sure your devices worked properly.

If the above troubleshooting tips don’t fix your iPhone problems, then you may require a trip to your local Apple store.
