Windows Defender options to check
Real time protection
The real-time protection that Windows Defender offers us is responsible for looking for all types of malware to prevent it from being installed or executed on our computer. In this way, it is in charge of analyzing the equipment periodically to keep it protected . We can access it from the “Antivirus and threat protection” section. Later in the “Antivirus and threat protection settings”, click on “Manage settings”. Here we must have the “Real-time protection” box activated in blue.
Tamper protection
This is a security measure incorporated by Windows Defender that automatically protects the antivirus settings to prevent any third-party application or malicious malware from modifying these settings . To access it again we have to access the “Antivirus and threat protection” section. Again in the “Antivirus and threat control settings” and click on “Manage settings”. We go down to the bottom of the screen and make sure that the “Protection against alterations” box is activated in blue.
Protection against ransomware
This protection is very important as it helps us protect files against threats such as ransomware as well as offering the possibility of restoring them in case of attack. To be well protected it is essential to have the folder access control activated. In this way, Windows Defender protects our files, folders and areas of the device’s memory, preventing any unauthorized changes.
It also allows us to access the “Block history”, the “Protected folders” and “Allow an application to access one of the controlled folders”. In addition, it allows us to configure OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service against any ransomware attack. We can access it from the “Virus and threat protection”. Here, if we scroll down, at the end we will find the option “Protection against ransomware” and click on “Manage protection against ransomware”. On the next screen, we will make sure to have the “Control access to the folder” option activated with blue light.
