Xiaomi Responds to Huawei with Its 200W Fast Charge

At the end of last week, Huawei launched the local version of the Mate 40 family in China. This event was used by one of the firm’s top managers, Yu Chengdong, to announce that they are working on a 120W fast charging technology or even 200W, the fastest on the market.

Xiaomi is a company that has gone from copying the competition to leading the development of new technologies and now, less than a week after the statements of the competitor’s executive, we learn that the famous company is also working on a system of 200W charge that allows a phone to be fully charged in less than 15 minutes.

The superfast charge war

Xiaomi seems ready to surpass the technology present in the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, the phone with the first 120W charger marketed in the world. According to the data provided by the Chinese company, this incredibly fast charger can fill the cell of the smartphone, with a capacity of 4,500 mAh, in just half an hour or less. Now the company is putting its efforts into developing an even more powerful charger that would reach 200W.

The news comes from a leak that appeared on Weibo that Xiaomi is working on a charger that can support such speeds. With this ultra-fast charge, a phone with a battery cell of around 4,500 mAh like the one in the Mi 10 Ultra, could be fully charged from 0 to 100% in just 15 minutes , or even less.

Again the controversy of these speeds is found in the stability of the battery. There has been a lot of talk that a fast charge of more than 100W can degrade a phone’s battery faster than expected. At the moment, we do not know how Xiaomi plans to address this problem in regards to an even more powerful charging solution of 200W or more.

OPPO waiting

With Xiaomi and Huawei sharing the intention of launching mobile phones that charge in 15 minutes, there is a third manufacturer that would be about to announce something similar. Already in summer OPPO announced a record fast charge of 125W (capable of getting a full charge of the mobile battery in less than 20 minutes) and it is to be imagined that for next year it plans to exceed the 200W border. We will closely monitor their movements.
