Xiaomi Phones: Control IOT Devices from the Control Panel

The Internet of Things is no longer a vague promise from manufacturers to populate our homes with smart devices. Many homes already have this type of device, and many hope that its control will be integrated as much as possible. Xiaomi mobiles can already do it thanks to the latest version of MIUI 12 .

We’ve known for a long time that Google was working on implementing IOT device control from the phones themselves natively. And it seems that Xiaomi has made its own interpretation of this with the latest version of its customization layer.

As we say, it was already known that Google was introducing the control of these smart devices from the phone’s shutdown menu. As we have already seen on Reddit, Xiaomi has interpreted this functionality in its own way, and has taken it to the control panel , in a movement that seems more logical than the one given by Google. In this way the controls of smart devices , such as a light bulb, the Smart TV , a smart speaker and a host of others, can be carried out by sliding the control panel from the top of the screen.

After the first section where we find the shortcuts to actions, as well as the brightness of the screen, there is now the “Home” section that allows access to these controls, represented by large buttons from which devices can be turned on and off more simply, without having to access the manufacturer’s app or Google Home. Well, for this you need to have the latest versions of MIUI 12. If so, it is your turn first to activate the new control panel so that these controls can appear.

How is the new panel activated?

As we say, although it is a native function of Android 11 , Xiaomi has interpreted it in its own way, and it is not exactly recent, because it has been announced for months. Although now is when some users are seeing it. In order to enjoy it, you must first activate the new control panel.

  • Enter the MIUI settings
  • Click on “screen”
  • Select “Status Bar”
  • Now activate “Use the new control center”

Logically, if you do not have any IOT device connected at home, you will not see these new options in the control center. But if these are already configured to function normally at home, you will be able to see the new buttons at the bottom of the control center . Then it will be as simple as pressing them so that the devices turn on and off as if by magic.
