Xiaomi: New Patent Showing a Rotating Camera

The mobile phone industry continues to pursue all-screen design. Although some manufacturers have already opted for pop-up or rotary cameras that avoid notches and holes in the screen, we are experiencing a moment of coexistence between all types of front cameras. Now, we have known an unpublished design from Xiaomi that could materialize in one of its next phones and that cleverly solves the problem.

Xiaomi: New Patent Showing a Rotating Camera

OPPO was the first company to offer an all-screen design with the FindX in 2018. Soon after, Xiaomi jumped on the bandwagon with the Mi Mix family, something that was later replicated with the Mi 9T series pop-up cameras. In addition, all manufacturers have tested emerging camera designs such as Huawei or Samsung itself with the Galaxy A80 and its strange rotating camera.

Double rotating camera

Now, we have learned of the existence of a patent filed by Xiaomi last summer. This is the CN 305868884 S patent filed by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd, with the CNIPA body. As we see in the images that accompany the patent, the camera can rotate 360 degrees and pops up when you need to take photos. On one side is the selfie sensor and on the other the rear sensors. The selfie sensor is hidden by hiding in the back.

Selfie in two positions

In this case, it has two rear cameras as an example but the most curious thing is that the sensor for selfies could emerge in two different positions , that is, from the classic upper part or from the side of the device. The patent does not make clear the size of this rotating camera or how it could affect its durability over time in a continual friction of pockets.

Will we ever see it?

As usual, we do not know if this patent design will materialize. Everything will depend on how progress is made with the hidden camera technology under the screen, on which firms such as OPPO, Samsung or Xiaomi itself have shown interest. It is believed that even the next Galaxy Note 20 could include this system, which is an engineering challenge, but pursues the common goal of offering a terminal with a clean screen of notch and holes . Whether it is an idea in progress or discarded by Xiaomi, it is still interesting how manufacturers search for the formula through different ideas, facing that all-screen mobile without mechanical additions.
