2020 has not been a year of good news. In no sense. Already in January of this year, one of the users’ favorite operating systems reached the end of its life cycle, being without support and passing away. Currently we can only choose between Windows 8 or Windows 10 . Preferably this second, since it is the most modern and the one with the most support ahead. However, it is no secret that Windows 10 has many good things, but also many bad things. And it is the latter precisely the ones that make Windows 7 miss the most.
Windows 10 is an operating system that has caused quite a stir since its launch. Starting with the problems when installing updates and new versions of this OS, and continuing with the ads embedded throughout the system, the Microsoft services that we must use yes or yes, the bloatware, the programs that are installed by default (and that cannot be uninstalled, such as Edge and Windows Defender) and, above all, due to data collection and lack of privacy.
Most of us use Windows 10 because there is no other. However, what if Microsoft had continued development of Windows 7? And we’re not just talking about releasing security patches, but about completely revamping and updating it with many of the features included in Windows 10 . YouTuber Kamer Kaan Avdan is known for creating concepts of what modern Microsoft operating systems would be like (or rather, they should be). This user has already imagined what versions of Windows 95 would be like if they were released today, and even what a future Windows 11 should look like.
Now it is the turn of Windows 7. This new concept imagines us a modern and updated version of this operating system. This new 2020 Edition takes the main features of Windows 7 and gives them a facelift to adapt to today’s features.
We can see a very faithful version of the start menu of this operating system along with the universal search engine of Windows 10. The file explorer has also received an impressive facelift, in addition to bringing a long-awaited feature that, unfortunately, does not finish reach our PCs: the tabs in the file explorer .
The desktop theme is, of course, an improved version, and much more customizable, of Aero Glass . The gadgets would return to the operating system to give it a personal touch adapted to the needs of any user. And of course, the new Windows 10 notification center could not be absent in this reimagined edition of Windows 7.
Microsoft, we want a Windows 7 Service Pack 2
Windows 7 has passed away . And unfortunately, there is nothing to do anymore. Only companies that pay may be entitled to 3 more years of support with critical security updates and, after that “grace” period, Windows 7 will jump into the trunk alongside Windows XP.
Windows Service Packs allow us to keep the operating system up to date without having to download all the patches from scratch. Windows XP had 3 Service Packs, but Windows 7 only released one, in 2010. Therefore, installing Windows 7 from scratch on a PC would mean downloading all the updates released for this operating system during the last 10 years. A process that takes hours. And that, if we are going to use this operating system, it is necessary to protect Windows 7 from malware.
Although no software reigns forever, it would have been a detail that Microsoft had closed the life cycle of its operating system with a Service Pack 2 , a package with all the updates released for this So that would allow us to keep it up to date in case of installing it from zero, either out of necessity or nostalgia.
But it has not been that way. And the only thing that remains of Windows 7 right now is this concept that, without a doubt, will make us see much more the defects and shortcomings of the current Windows 10.
