The Microsoft Store does not have a lot of applications
We tell you this because, as many of you may have already seen first hand, the official store of the system is not what was originally expected. In fact the Microsoft Store has always had a problem with the shortage of applications within it. That is why Microsoft itself has been working on new capabilities to lay the foundation for progressive web applications, or PWA.
In fact, it is considered one of the keys to the future of the application market for the firm and its Windows universe. For those who do not know them, we will tell you that PWAs are web pages that can be run as local applications in the operating system, which offers many advantages. This is a project that has been running for some time, but is gradually improving.
While PWAs have already started to look and work better in Windows 10, they are still not as good as UWPs or desktop applications. It is for all these reasons that the firm is currently preparing new improvements for these PWAs in Windows 10 . In fact, updating the Edge, the company’s browser, will make PWAs more similar to a native application.
Edge will help integrate PWAs into Windows 10
From what Microsoft is making known and has commented, we will have the possibility of managing PWAs from Windows Settings. This means that we can already uninstall web applications as if it were a conventional application. To all this we must add that Microsoft now allows these PWAs to share and receive content in Windows 10.
But that is not all that is being worked on at the moment, it is also working on better integration with the system’s Start menu. This will allow us to access these elements with a single click from the corresponding tile in this section. On the other hand, the file management from the PWAs is improved, as well as its integration with the Task Manager and the Configuration application.
Another of the sections that you do not want to miss, is that related to the privacy of these applications. And it is that as their use intensifies, they should be more secure and private in terms of the data they handle. Much of these innovations will be achieved thanks to an upcoming version of Microsoft Edge.
This will allow PWAs to write directly to the Windows file system. We can also interact with these applications from the context menu of the operating system, which will greatly facilitate their use. Of course, these improvements will arrive first at Edge Canary so that later they can be used by everyone. What’s more, all of the other Chromium browsers can then be used.
