Windows 10 May 2021 Update ISO: How to Download and Install

Microsoft released Windows 10 May 2021 Update yesterday. The first update of the year for Windows 10 is the most subtle in its history, since it only includes three new features, and two of them above are for the business sector. Updating is not essential, but it is always good to be on the latest version of the operating system. Therefore, we are going to see all the ways we have to download the Windows 10 ISO.

Updating Windows 10 is a very simple process, and also increasingly secure. Windows 10 updates can be installed through three main avenues, ranging from least to most secure. In this case there are hardly any dangers to update, since the base is the same as in the two previous versions, and therefore we will not have problems of incompatibility with drivers. Those problems will come in the second half of the year with 21H2.

Windows 10 May 2021 Update ISO

For now, 21H1 can be installed if we go to Settings> Windows Update . If we click Check for updates, the operating system will search for the latest version, but it will not install it automatically. Of course, it will give us the option to install it manually, since the company wants to verify that, indeed, there are no compatibility problems before the massive launch.

In the event that your computer is within the locks imposed by Microsoft, and you cannot install the update yet, you have at your disposal a first way to force the update: use the Windows 10 Update Wizard, also called the Upgrade Tool . To do this, you have to go to this link and click Update now. The tool will be downloaded, and we just have to follow the indications.

Media Creation Tool – Best Way to Download ISO

If we still cannot update, then we will have to resort to the Media Creation Tool . In the same link as before, we go down a bit and click Download the tool now, where we will download a file called MediaCreationTool21H1.exe. This file also allows us to install the update, but if the previous tool gives us errors, we will have to resort to doing it by force: downloading the ISO.

To do this, we execute the Media Creation Tool. When it loads, we will accept, and it will give us a choice between two options: Update this computer now, or create an installation unit.

After selecting this second option, we can choose between creating the installation on a USB pendrive (8 or more GB), or download the ISO to later burn it to a disk or manually create our bootable USB drive to install Windows 10. The time of download depends on our connection, and the resulting file is 4.47 GB, just enough to fit on a DVD.

With this ISO image we can also create virtual drives in programs like VirtualBox, ideal if we want to open suspicious files or test settings that can affect the stability of the operating system.

Another trick to download the ISO directly from the web

It is also possible to download the Windows 10 ISO directly from the Microsoft website with a little trick. First, we go to the link from earlier in Chrome, and press Ctrl + Shift + I to open the More Tools> Developer Tools section. There, we press Ctrl + Shift + M, and the web will be put in mobile mode. At the top, where it says Responsive, click, and choose iPad or iPad Pro to improve the size.

After that, we hit F5 and refresh the web. By doing so, now the web will offer us the link to the ISO directly instead of the Media Creation Tool. We select the language, and Microsoft will give us a choice between the 32-bit or 64-bit ISO. Links are valid for the next 24 hours .
